Good question.
Yes, you're right. Modern Christians do ignore the parts they don't like, except when it suits them to dredge them up again.
The Old Testament Jehovah is a primitive concept of divinity. Hopefully, people today will grow past their fear of Hell and recognize the God they praise is in fact immoral.

No kidding. The Bible even contradicts itself. How can any sane person put their lives into something filled with hypocricy? An eye for an eye or do we turn the other cheek?
And why would an all powerful God have to have dealings with a lowlife fallen angel like Satan? If you remember Satan said that Job only loved God cause he had a lot of things and had a happy life. Why would God need to make an example out of Job just to prove Satan wrong? Sounds like God is a little insecure if He's doing that.

This was a Just punishement for a people that were doing even worse than this. If you had cancer you would want a Doctor to REMOVE it so that it didn't get worse. God did the same here. We do not ignore it we are Happy that God prevented things from getting worse and is willing to "pull the trigger" when others would just let things go. Is like the Atom Bomb we dropped on Hiroshima Lots of people died but the war was ended and saved even MORE lives than were killed in those Blasts.

You are obviously angary because in that chapter, discussed are the Oracles Against the Pagan Nations. It is a vision concerning Babylon from Isaiah. This passage discusses what Isaiah saw in a vision handed down from God. The vision is God comming forward to destroy sin (Babylon) and to set up his Kingdom. The figures are used to convey the ideas of horror and destruction of sins and evil. This is a vision, not God saying that he is going to rape women and murder little children. Anyone that actually studies and understands the Bible knows that the Old Testament is full of visions and prophecies that aren't to be taken literally, but were instead used to teach against behaving wickedley. Example being stories that have morals to them.

Everyone is entitled to their own beliefs and I respect you for having your own. I am a firm believer in the BIble, and to answer your question I don't twist around the parts I dislike. You have to remember that the Bible was written by man through the voice of God. Inorder for God to teach people about him it must be shown that there is good and evil in the world and the evil will be punished. YOu can not blame the evil in the world on God he lets man make their own decisions and everyone is entitled to the choice to live with god or in hell. You must make the choice for yourself. I cannot show you God but I can tell you the difference he has made in the lives of many people. Everyone needs something to have faith and believe in,and to me that person is God. I hope you listen to this and do not take offense. I am not here to judge you. Follow your own beliefs and do not bash tthe beliefs of others. Once again I respect you for having an opinion.

I will not ignore one Word of the Scripture. This passage humbles me to be obedient to the Lord so that I might avoid His wrath. Let's see why. It is important to read the whole passage so as to see why God is doing what He is doing. He is enacting revenge against the Babylonians, one of the most wicked nations that has ever existed on this earth. Now concerning the death of children and young people. Leaving no one behind is a common military practice historically. Wiping everyone out makes the most sense. There will be no one left to enact revenge in the years or generations that follow. The Babylonians are infamous for child sacrifice, incest, sodomy, genocide, slavery, and you wonder why God had them wiped out?

To them: the Medes (Isaiah 13:17) and Persians, who would destroy Babylon. Gates of the volunteers: the mustering places of Babylon's enemies for war against her.
Dedicated soldiers: in the sense that they will wage a "holy war" and carry out God's plan.
[6-8] Day of the LORD: described often in prophetical writings, it generally signified the coming of the Lord in power and majesty to destroy his enemies and inaugurate his kingdom. Here it refers to the overthrow of Babylon. The figures used convey the idea of horror and destruction. Read together Isaiah 13:6-8, 14-16.
Ophir: cf note to Psalm 45:9. Satyrs: in the popular mind, demons of goatlike form dwelling in ruins, symbols of immorality;

I understand completely your distaste for the incongruities of the "Bible". I do agree that you must be a bit "anti-intellectual" to be able to swallow much of what it purports. I am a personal survivor of child molestation & also sexual abuse from a serial rapist, and as a result I have subjected myself to many abusive relationships due to extremely low self -esteem issues. Regardless, I still classify myself as spiritual and believe wholeheartedly in a Creative Intelligence that does underly the totality of all things. This universal intelligence gave we humans "free will", it is when the "free will" of another who's motives are not pure and good cross our paths that we suffer. Just what the Human Existence is all about

Prophet Isaiah is a proved true Prophet. These verses, I believe, pertain to when God's wrath is poured on those who destroy His creation. There are seven bowls of wrath that are poured on the world, I believe after the first resurrection. Seven represents completely. So, the fullness of God's wrath. Right now the wrath of God is being stored up.
I love a true prophet. Sometimes the truth hurts, but it is better to believe the true prophet.
If you have a problem with it, just repent to God for not believing in Jesus. Confess Jesus your Lord & believe in your heart He died on the cross for the remission of your sins & rose from the dead for your justification. Be filled with the Holy Spirit & be prepared for the return of Jesus Christ, so You can be part of the first resurrection.

Congratulations! You know how to take things out of context! How original! have you read the ENTIRE BOOK?
Futhermore... if you read ALL OF ISAIAH you will find that God, who is infinitely merciful, yet just, had to punish Israel for her sins. And, after He did so, He restored Israel.
Now Ch. 13 dealt exclusively with the nation of Babylon, because they destroyed Israel, without cause, and desecrated the temple Solomon erected in Jerusalem....

Ha, the bible seems to be written by a some guy I never heard of. Nor saw a real photo or with my own eyes. So, reading the little paragraph, I'm starting to think "God" was an undercover sex predator and baby-eater. And he doesn't do it with the guys. Aw, I bet they felt left out.
