Leviticus 17:11: “For the life of the body is in its blood. I have given you the blood on the altar to purify you ... It is the blood, given in exchange for a life that makes purification possible.” For centuries after these words were written, scientists were bleeding the sick with leeches.
Job 28: 24, 25: “For he looked to the ends of the earth, and saw under the whole heaven, to make the weight for the winds; and he weighed the waters by measure.” Long after these words were written, scientists maintained that air is weightless. Eventually they caught up to the Bible and realized that air has weight.
Job 38: 19, 20: “Where does light come from, and where does darkness go? Can you take each to its home?” When God asked these questions of Job, he was showing him that light travels. It would take scientists many years to figure that out.
Isaiah 40:22 says, “God sits above the circle of the earth." For centuries after Isaiah, scientists thought it was flat.

Also:
Ecclesiastes 1:6, “The wind blows south, and then turns north. Around and around it goes, blowing in circles.” Long after Solomon shared the truth that the wind blows in cyclones, scientists were still claiming that it blew straight.
Jeremiah 33:22, “And as the stars of the sky cannot be counted and the sand on the seashore cannot be measured, so I will multiply the descendants of my servant David and the Levites who minister before me.” The scientists believed there were only about 1,000 stars. It took them a lot longer than the Bible did to figure out that there were over a billion.

confident, you're suitable approximately that. There are greater information approximately life and technological know-how additionally which would be discovered interior the Bible. yet another occasion is recent in interest 25: 7 -10, and Isaiah 40: 22 it particularly is describing the around earth and that's invisible help in area many centuries in the previous scientific discoveries. additionally Bible prophecy explains the meaning of international circumstances. The Bible foretold those circumstances earlier, and what the effect would be. 2 Timothy 3: a million-5, Luke 21:25- 31, Matthew ch.24, and tells what we would desire to realize this as to proceed to exist the drawing near international destruction, with the prospect to learn eternal life below righteous circumstances right here on the earth. Not that I agree, but so what? Sounds like examples of science in the Bible. Too bad there isn't more science and less cotton candy.

1:Blood is just one of many essential components of the body. that quote may have even contributed to the use of leeches.
2:If you're going to be so literal about light moving in the bible, then I could say that the Bible is wrong about darkness being an actual substance just like light.
3: Go back to elementary school geometry. Circles are flat.
And while we are on the subject of how scientificly advanced the bible is, might I remind you that moden genetics shows that the human race would have died out from inbreading after a dozen generations if genesis were true. Furthermore no rational person could give the story of noah any credence whatsoever, know that we know how many billions of species there are.
So the fact of that matter is that what you have is not science, just pathetic rationalizations, just like you rationalize the atrocites that god preformed in the old testiment, such as personally killing over 800,000 inocent people.

Even a stopped clock is right twice a day.
If the Bible didn't have some things of value in it, I don't think it would have the hold on people that it does. But there are also things it is dead wrong about and things it can't or won't account for.

Well I'm convinced, you should campaign to get this into science 101. A book that has men coming back from the dead is obviously grounded in serious scientific fact.

The Bible is just a bunch of meaningless babble, I'm sure you could find your own meaning behind every little thing. This proves nothing. Great answers m137pay and Lucky Fokker, I hope to become as smart as you guys.

I watched a Discovery Channel Special on Meteorites the other day and they mentioned that as late as 1890 all scientists SWORE that Meteorites were merely supperstition for religious nuts.

It seems that you are reading into these passages what you want to read rather than what the people at the time would have understood. For example, the Isaiah quote is based on the thinking that the earth was a flat disk. In other words, it was shaped like a circle, but was flat, like a coin.
For the Job passages, realize that people knew that light goes away at night. The greeks actally thought that both light and dark had homes that they retreated to during the night or day. As for the'weight of the winds', that would refer to weights used to *capture* the wind, as in sails.
It is a fairly elementary thing to notice that when a person bleeds too much, they die. Many ancient people realized that blood was needed for life. However, the Bible certainly doesn't say what blood is actually for: to take food and oxygen to the body and to remove the wastes.
And how about those passages where the 'pillarsof the earth' are mentioned, complete with foundations? That seems to be contradicted by what we know of the earth now, eh? Or where Jesus was taken to the top of a mountain and shown all the kingdoms of the earth? That isn't possible on a sphere, is it?
Those people that wrote the Bible were working with the concepts of their time. We can sometimes read their misconceptions through modern eyes, but that doesn't mean they had the right ideas.

The last line says the "circle of the Earth". Circles are flat. Spheres are 3-D. Beyond that, circle also has meanings other than just round. You have a circle of friends, I doubt they would appreciate being called round. Also the "weight for the winds" doesn't say air has weight. It says winds have a force. In a strong wind it feels like there's a weight pressing against you. I think the message about the light is saying that God is the source of light. Also darkness doesn't "go" anywhere. Darkness is the absence of light. Darkness doesn't travel. As for the first comment, it sounds more like they are talking about animal sacrifices than about blood being the life of a person.
Please give more examples since there apparently are so many.
Also you forget that science has since changed its mind on all the things you mentioned. Has the Bible changed its mind on anything? Ever?

Leviticus 17: 11 - This concept of life being determined by the purity of the blood was why leeches were used. In the middle ages, people thought that sickness was based on an imbalance in different components of blood. This primitive concept is reflected in the quote. Unless, the passage goes on to make a reference to germ theory, it was not ahead of its time.
Job 28: 24, 25 - Air is not very dense, so in many calculations, its weight can be ignored. However, the concept of air pressure reflects what the Bible said. Whether the Bible was trying to be accurate or poetic is beyond what I know. For all I know, the weight is a metaphor for something else.
Job 38: 19, 20 - From a scientific perspective, darkness is just the absence of light. Darkness is nothing. Therefore, darkness cannot go anywhere. The quote implies that darkness moves just as light does. Therefore the quote is scientifically inaccurate. The Bible hasn't caught up to science.
Isaiah 40: 22 - I don't know when this was written, but the circumfrence of the Earth was calculated in Ancient Greece. (The idea didn't fully catch on until later.)
The quote says circle of the Earth. That implies that the Earth may or may not be round, rather a part of it is known as the circle. I don't know if I'm just looking to deeply into this.
Isn't God everywhere, so shouldn't he also be below the circle too.
Doesn't the Bible often use the term, "4 corners of the Earth?" This implies a flat planet.
My conclusion is that when the Bible was written, nobody knew these things. The writers were simply using metaphors and being poetic. They weren't predicting the future of science. Besides, scientists have come up with many great things not mentioned in the Bible. (I doubt that the Bible mentions Penicillin.)
