Ok, this is something you really need to understand. Your boil, is actually a staph infection. DO NOT go swimming at a pool tomorrow. Not only could you infect others, but the staph could also spread on you. Believe it or not, the staph infection that you have has originated in one or two places. Either the anus, or the nose. Usually the most common place that staph is present is inside the nostrils of the nose (hence, don't eat your boogers). You may pick your nose, or even just rub it while sleeping. This in turn could actually put the staph on your fingertips or under the nail, and when you scratch something on you......several days later you have a painful boil. The staph in your nose is easily treated with a prescription cream that is applied a Q-Tip and that places the cream in your nostril. As far as your boil, a doctor is probably going to have to put you on antibiotics for anywhere from 7 to 10 days, and the most popular antibiotic used for this is Keflex (Cephalexin). The boil needs a dressing on it, and since it's busted, it's going to have to heal from the inside out. They can get pretty deep. If it stops up on top, or heals on top first, the whole thing will start over again, and you may have to get it lanced. So, to really nip this in the bud, you really need to go see a doctor. Don't do anything stupid like going swimming in a pool, whether it be a public or private pool. Best of luck to you.

Generally, if something is ... leaking... even if its scabbed over, its not a good idea to go swimming. Imagine you are someone else, finding out you were swimming with someone who's nose was bleeding in the pool?

Sure you can put a waterproof bandaid on it if you want to protect it from the chlorine but you will be fine.
