they have taken out my old wood windows and replaced them wiht double glazing ;the total exclusion of sound is creepy and i notice theat the metal handle and the inside of the glass gets clammy;incidentally the handle jammed shut almost instantly which going is make htings interesting in the event of fire;is this a common fault ?
how good is it at keeping heat out or in?-anything you can think of as my immediate reaction is that the product is an utter piece of crap.

Depending on the quality of the glazing willdetermine the effectiveness of draught and noise exclusion but as far as the handle jamming shut thats a fault and I would have the installers back to correct it.

You must be in a council house then.

If you dont like the quiet open a window, they save on energy costs.

You have issues.

Of course im right about you having issues, the way u asked this question makes it clear. Im not being rude, im responding to a manic question about a simple fixture and fitting.

No-one voices this kind of vitriol over double glazing.

The act of installing and sealing a pane of glass to a sash, or frame, is called glazing. Double-glazed widows have two panes of glass, covering the same opening. The air space(or inert gas in low e units) between the sheets of glass provides a level of insulation.

double glazing is good to muffle any noise also keep heat in ....i understand the problems of it sticking but after a while it will be o.k. as for a fire risk if you keep a little mallet and bash in the corner of the window it will smash...i find since double glazing the house is too warm/hot now we have a heat wave it is unbearable

Hi we are just having double glazing put in on our upstairs rooms, we have thwm on the downstairs rooms and they are brilliant at keeping the warmth in, and shutting out the outside noise so it is alot more peaceful and doesnt rot and takes alot of force to break it. I would ring the company who put your windows in to come and fix your window it shouldnt be slamming shut. We are getting windows from this company called safe style uk and they are fitting fire safety windows so it opens so you can get out in case of a fire, plus if anyone trys to break in if they hit the windows seven times or more they dead lock so its impossible to get in. So overall double galzing is good
