Hi I have just got a staffie puppy at 7 weeks old. His previous owner says that he is fully weaned, and he has ate some solid food. He whined at me a lot and I didn;t know why, so I gave him a tiny bit of cows milk mixed with water, and he went crazy for it

What is the best cows milk alternative to get him, or do you think I should avoid letting him regress??

cheers

Seven weeks is really young to wean a puppy. He probably has big enough teeth to eat hard food, but to make sure he is getting enough, just soften if for him.

Just pour some hot water over it, let it sit for 20 minutes and then give it to him. If he eats it, he is not ready for hard food yet. He doesn't really need milk anymore.

I agree with what everyone before me suggested. But be sure and purchase the puppy kibble. I used the Purina puppy chow with soft pieces. You can still add hot water to it, but soon you can stop adding the water and he will enjoy the soft pieces mixed in with the hard pieces.

Years and years ago it was thought you could wean pups at six weeks old. Over the years it was discovered that it wasn't a good idea, they needed mom's milk and mom's attention. Some breeds will not release them until they are twelve weeks old. I think most go with eight weeks.
He is going to need a lot more attention because he is so young. You are replacing his mom.
PLEASE do not cage him at night. Let him sleep with you. I never understand why people get dogs. If the person works, the poor animal is caged all day. He is released when you get home but you have other duties/chores to do other than sit and entertain the pup. If you go to bed at a decent hour, that is what? 10:30 or 11:00 p.m.? THEN the poor baby goes back in the bloody cage?

My pup has always had the run of the house and sleeps wherever he chooses, which is usually on my head. (I thought only cats did that)
So, the dog gets how many hours out of the day outside the cage? I think that is very sad.

Never give a dog or a cat milk. It can cause medical problems like calcium deposits and many more ailments. If he refuses the food any longer I would call the breeder and ask about the pet milk you can purchase in the pet stores. It's for babies that don't have a mom to feed them. You want him to get enough nourishment.

try using a very soupy soft dog food or cook him something similar .feed similar food daily but reduce liquid amount then introduce harder foods. should only take 2 weeks or so to transition to soft dry food good luck
