He will pee with his leg hiked up if he is trying to mark territory and most do not do it unitl they are older.
I neutered my male dog at 4 months and he hiked his leg to pee when we were out at the park or something but at home many times he would squat. It is normal and nothing is wrong with your dog.

Why do you care? Both my (neutered) boy dogs do both. If they really have to go, they just squat. It's only when it's not a need thing but simply a "I want to pee on that tree" thing that they'll lift a leg. One of them didn't start lifting his leg until he was over a year old, evne though he'd been neutered at about 9 months.

But why is it important? Most people who own male dogs try to discourage this marking behavior as much as possible. I'd rather my boys squat all the time because when they lift their legs, the peeing can get a little haphazard. They've been known to pee on each other by accident when "marking", and I get a little embarassed when we're out for a walk and they decide they have to pee on the wall of someone's house or on someone's nice fence.

I had a male dog that did this too.I think it is just the way they learn.I figured he would grow out of it but he never did.Again, I think it is a learned behavior and nothing to worry about.I liked him doing that because he wouldn't go around peeing on everything like my other male did.He would try to mark but he didn't make it very high LOL

Humm come over to my house - you can watch the neutered male lifting his leg & the intact one squatting.
10 months is still a little young give him time. many dogs shift method according to advalable pee spots (lack of vertical surface mean squat) and if he always perfers to squat - so what?

It is because of getting them fixed. It just matters on the age, that why some fixed will still lift there legs. The younger you get them fixed they wont lift a leg cause they havent learn yet.Its a hole lot better when they learn to lift a leg they do it on everything and anything all the tim.

Some male dogs never develope the leg hike stance. This is not a problem. Your dog is fine.

I'm really not sure, but in my opinion it's better the way he's peeing now.
