It's www.petfinder.com and you can check where your local organization are. If you rescue an animal, you'll be their hero forever! You can also avoid the puppy stage if you'd like and save $$ on shots and spay/neuter.
I have 5 pugs...3 from pug rescue, 1 from the pound and one just from a small breeder. 3 cats-2 were feral & 1 was abandoned.
Do some research. Some dogs are very active, regardless of size. Look for one that can be happy with your schedule, the space you have and how much time you'd like to spend exercising you dog.
Good Luck!

Im not sure how big a havanese is but i would recommend getting a BICHON FRISE they are AWESOME!! I got one and he is calm and great with my three kids but loves loves to play as well when played with. My bichon is about 14 lbs. They look like a maltese and poodle like but they are adorable

You should get a pomeranian, or a toy poodle, or a chiuhua, or a pug, or even a Cairn Terrier? If you go to puppyfinder.com they have a breed selector that can help you with exactly what kind of dog you want.

check on Petsfinder.com for dogs available for adoption in your area. You can specify small dogs, so that will show you what is out there
