98 was the first version of windows to support u.s.b but you had to be fairly experienced to install u,s,b devices, unlike xp which locates all the files(cab) itself,in 98 you had to browse and locate the files yourself,i had to install a pen drive the other week for a lad who had 98 and it took me 5 minutes compared to 5 seconds on 98
the reason for 98 being like this is that u.s.b.came out around the same time as the launch of 98 so all microsoft could do was to issue updates

Windows 95B was the 1st version to support usb, though most companys products will not support you on anything later then Windows 98SE. (a good example is a epson printer with a USB port, when you visit the website the earliest driver for it will be windows 98, even though it 'could' have worked in windows 95)
hope this info helps!

Win95 had limited support for USB, Win98 also and Win98SE had a better go at it, but the first version of Windows to fully support USB ('plug and play') was WinMe, closely followed by WinXP.
I only answered cos there didn't seem to be any other women answering!
