Well, I play on two top teams, which in other words the best team for that sport in town. Well, I was at a camp for basketball which is run by my coach for the top team, I injured my elbow to the point were I can't play anything for 6 weeks. My coach for basketball didn't care that I couldn't play because his season was over, but my coach for soccer was really mad because our traing season just began. He told me I should only play one sport and that I really shrewed the team. I don't no if a should quit one and just play the other all year round, but I love basketball a lot and soccer a love too! SO if I had to pick one it would be basketball but I don't want to chose one. My parents also think I am overavtive and that it can't be good for my body, but I love what I play and how much I play it. Your advice would be greatly appreicated. I am 13 and entering the 8th grade.

The soccer coach shouldn't have said that. Some coaches think that their sport and their team is the only one that matters. At your age, that's definitely not true. You're only in 8th grade. You've got a lot of sports ahead of you. Keep playing both and get all the experience you can.

When I was in 8th grade, I developed a knee condition that required some rest. I knew that a month or two of rest was worth it for being able to continue playing sports through high school. I sat out of the last half of soccer season to rest for the upcoming hockey season. The rest helped my knees clear up, and it didn't adversely affect my future in either hockey or soccer. I was able to play four sports through high school, and was fortunate to be relatively injury-free.

Think about the future both in terms of your body and in terms of your experience. Play as much as you can, but respect your body.

Well I play 8 sports, I am very busy. You can never really be to over active when your 13. You haveng fun doing to sports you love to do. Everybody get's hurt when playing sports . Your soccer coach needs to under stand that you have another commitment too.. I have been hurt many times. If you think that playing two sports is to much then stop. Good luck . Stay on basketball because that coach seems to care more for your well being than for the team even though the season was over. He wasn't like "practice for next year even though the seasons over". The soccer coach seems uptight and only cares about winning.

Your soccer coach needs to watch what he says. At your age, play all you want to . Also, it's sad about being injured for the beginning of soccer, but the coach should have said, "We'll miss having you in the lineup at first. Can you help out as a manager until you're ready to play again?"

First of all i am 13 too and entering the 8th grade as well. I, like you, play basketball and soccer. I also play other sports like football, bodybuilding, and swimming, but have never injured myself. If i were you i wouldn't quit either one. I would just keep on playing. Hope that helped.

I played a different sport every season. I played football in the fall, Wrestling in the winter, and track and field in the spring. I did this for 4 years. I just change what I did in these sports. In track I threw the disk and the shot put.
Good luck

ask your doc has something you can wear to protect the elbow so you can still play soccer i played with a broken arm but the refs made me pad the cast. in the mean time work that other arm shooting and dribbling. if you enjoy sports enough there's no reason not to play ten of them unless of course your grades suffer for it

I agree with (mostly) everyone else...your coach shouldn't have said that...he just probably knows you are one of the best players so he was dissapointed and wants your energy all going toward soccer. Just play both, if you have fun and YOU don't feel over exhausted then go for it!!!

Don't lie. You suck at both. The coaches were probably glad you got hurt.
