It is perhaps more of an ignorant and irresponsible idea, rather than a shameful one.
To simply pray that a child can be saved from a fire instead of going in and saving that child would be to give up all responsibility as a member of society. It's almost a cop-out: "I'll pray that everything gets better but I won't actually do anything to help myself or others."
In a purely Christian sense, this goes against God's fundamental teachings. Take this story: a man prays everyday for 20 years that he will win the lottery. When he dies, he stands before God and asks him, "God, I prayed everyday and you still never let me win the lottery." God replies, "You never bought a ticket."
God only helps those who are willing to help themselves. So if you're just sitting on your a** waiting for God to come give you everything you want, you don't deserve the free will that you were born with.

I think, and i got this from Scripture, pray continually and take more action; in other words do both, prayer is real action. I don't think you should just pray and do nothing else.

I think faith without works is wrong so if some action should be takent then to try and say. "I will pray" as an excuse to get out of doing that action is also wrong.

The real action is God. He can make or break any deal, situation or incident. There is nothing more powerful than God. A lot of times people think that we are suppose to handle everything on our own and not call on God and that is when most mistakes take place.

Yes... it is morally wrong to sit idly by and do something as ineffective as prayer when some action needs to be taken.
Think of an accident... If someone is fatally wounded and you sit there and pray for them to make it through, they are going to die. If you take them to a hospital immediately there is a chance they will survive.

Pray when theres something going on that is out of your control, but if you can take a stand and help make it better, then what are you waiting for? Time doesn't stand still and most of lifes problems are because someone waited too long.

We need to pray to see if we are to take action, and if so, the right action.
