How big is the universe, and why?

Well the Universe would seem infinite to us, there is not a sign that says "you are now exiting the universe"

God created it in it's vastness, But God is more infinate than His creation, His creation is always lesser than He is...

Evolution states it happened by accident, something out of nothing, life from non living substance... it says cosmic foam heated up and exploded... but where did the cosmic foam come from?

but God says that He spoke and the universe was made... in 6 days....

God created everything with a predetermined age, even though it was only seconds old... Adam and Eve were fully formed adults... stars could be seen even though they were 1 million light years away ( light year= distance light travels in one year), the same applies to the animals and the trees and everything else in creation....

similar features in animals does not mean common ansestor, but common Creator- God if you will....

Life cannot spontaniously form from non living objects...

the DNA code cannot form into a new code and create a new creature....

And what about the missing link? There are supposed to be thousands of missing links for evolution to be true... too bad they have not found any yet.

If you set a can of green beans on a table for millions of years, a jolly green giant will not evolve and pop out of the can...

A painting with order and structure cannot paint itself...

the Theory of evolution cannot be true- it is unproven, but accepted as fact for those that cannot accept that there is a God...

Some people will believe in anything short of insanity and beyond than in God- and that is sad...

God bless you and your family

Nobody knows exactly how big the universe really is. Most are pretty certain that it's not infinite though, if it were, then where is it expanding into? Why it's so big is obvious. Let's say that in the absence of any real opposing forces (there is the universe, and there is nothing. Nothing can't oppose something.), the "big bang" is still an explosion in process. I've heard theories that the universe will just keep expanding, pretty much forever, long after the last star has burned out....something to look forward to, eh? I totally understand what scares people into becoming religious. If I COULD shut off my brain i'd become a holy roller too.

**splinterjah, if the big bang is such a ludacris idea (which isn't so ludacris when you consider the fact that it came into existence in the absence of any natural laws "the laws of physics" that would make such a thing an imposibility.), then where did god come from?**

Perhaps infinite, we haven't been able to measure. And in fact if it is infiniete we never will be able to measure because... well you kind of need an ending point in order to take a measurement. It doesn't seem logical to me that the universe could "end". What would be there, a "Universe ends here, watch your step" sign? A wall? Well than what's behind the wall?

The universe is created to be just right for human life and at this particular. The Bible says that space is expanding as do the cosmologists.

No one knows. According to M Theory, though, the entire universe may exist on a flat membrane with other membranes contain other universes just millimeters away.

how big, that is thoretically infinite, there are many things that support this, the general concensus of the theoretical physics community is that it is infinite.

why, it is probably a giant black hole, infinite three dimentional objects can fit into it and infinite of them can exist, a wormhole is like hawking radiation and the universe (to a three dimentional object) is in fact infinite.

that is the best i can give you as to why, though it has not been wholy proven.

There is no space. It's an abstract idea to describe the nothingness between things.

Big enough for people to know that we are not the only living planet and that anything could happen.

It is infinitely big to show mankind that infinity really exists. If it weren't for seeing the infinite sky we might get really self-absorbed.

Nothingness.... its an actual scientific term

My theory has sister blackholes that would connect what we call spheres of universe.

So in reality there are more than one universes. making them polyverse
