In 1999, Poe John Paul 11 stated that heaven and hell are not places, but instead refer to different states of life, to whether or not you are in relation with God. I think he shocked a lot of catholics. What are your views?

i don't agree w/ pope john paul. . . but i can see how you can have heaven on earth if you have a good relationship w/ Christ and hell on earth if you have a bad relationship.
but i believe that those are real spiritual places.
to say that there is no "real" heaven and hell shows that the pope was not a real Christian (gasp!) b/c then there was no eternal damnation for God to keep us out of. ne way, i've never liked the whole pope-thing ne way (why should i do what some old guy in a sheet says? he's not God)
ne way, i imagine heaven as a place where I can hug God and just be with the Guy I love the most. where i can be fully immersed by Love and acceptance.
hell is the exact opposite.
well, that's how i see it.

In the sense that Heaven and Hell are Spiritual Abodes, Since God is a Spirit and We also are Spirits , dwelling in flesh temples. Heaven & or Hell has no place for the flesh body to dwell. The Spirit however will be eternal in the Chosen Realm With God ,or With out God, Hell being the Grave and the Spirit incarcerated there Eternally. Would not be my Choice.

There is no hell . . .

And heaven?

Looking through child's eyes in an eternal adventure of living, discovering, creating, growing, and sharing;

Realizing that the whole universe is geared toward the revelation of God to and the accomplishing the perfection of each individual through his experience;

Eternal Love and the Brotherhood of Man.

I imagine heaven to be paradise....being free from everything even evil, where man and animals can coexist. There will be no evil there...then there are the Angels and and Jesus/God, looking forward to meet them as I have a lot of questions.

I think heaven and hell do exists, I don't agree with the Pope's statement, but then again we are all entitled to our different opinions. What do you think?

I am a Southern Baptist, I am not toothless, don't live in a trailer park, my fenders stay on, and I am not married to my cousin!
(I felt that was necessary)
We take the Bible literally, we don't read scripture and say, "wonder what he meant by that?" In Revelation there are descriptions of Heaven. It is golden, and jeweled, and beautiful, a diamond, sparkly and bright, happy, singing, eternal life. No tears, no death, no sickness, no unhappiness, no anger, no sin.
What is said about hell is that after the judgement, it is thrown into the lake of fire along with Satan, his angels, and death. Hell is a place riight now, that is where the unsaved go upon death. It is a place of torment, darkness, and gnashing of teeth. After the judgement hell is thrown into the lake of fire.

I've been asked this question many times, & the truth is- I don't really care. I don't believe in a "Hell", and I've got more than enough on my plate in THIS life- to worry much about what a "next one" might be like. The reality IS, the future is inevitable- so NOW is the time to pay attention to the matters at hand while the coast is clear. Whenever death arrives- I'll be ready for it, & for whatever awaits thereafter...

Funny question for an atheist.I cannot imagine what it would be like in either places.I believe the description of the Bible and I would much rather err on the safe side and go to heaven.About the catholics.I`ve been trying to warn people about them being mislead but to no avail so far.Maybe I am to harsh but rather be harsh now than looking for excuses when I stand before the Throne and have to explain myself.Check out my answers to most religious question if you want to know more.

Hell is existing without interrelationship with God. This is meant to be in a deadly state existence, because your soul exists without the care of God who is everlasting Life. Heaven is exactly the opposite; this is when you live with God and see him and have a interrelation ship with him who by his love and power will make things for you so wonderful and so splendid beyond any body's imagination. To exist without God is Hell indeed.

what the pope is saying is that heaven and hell are basically a person's lifestyle, a person's choices and influences form heaven and heel on earth. same as god. god is a human based catalyst. when 19 human beings hijacked 4 planes and took down the world trade center, that was the devil at his worst. the cleanup, the patriotism, and the lives of our families and friends we began to treasure, that was god at his finest. people like to say that god hates me and he does this to me. but god is not down here, it's only human beings. we are our own worst enemy. so in closing, it's strictly based on the situations we humans create and instill on eachother that heaven and hell, the devil and god.
