Dogs are a bit territorial, so bringing in the new puppy makes the older pup feel like his space was invaded. And, you can't expect instant bonding. Animals are just like people in that they like who they like, and don't like others for reasons of their own.
Make sure that you give the older dog LOTS of special attention so he doesn't feel pushed aside in favor of the puppy - altho it's soooooo tempting to want to play with the new puppy all the time. This is a bad move. You want the older dog to feel the alpha, and instill that in the puppy. A lot of it will just be them getting used to each other and accepting each other, which is something that will just take as long as it takes. Altho, they are pack animals, so if they both sleep on your bed, that'll speed up the process. If you have them both asleep at some point, and can quietly move the puppy to next to the older dog and have them stay asleep so they're actually sleeping TOGETHER *(a la "in a pack") it might help. You have to be careful with that, tho. Also make sure you feed them in separate bowls, feed the older dog FIRST, and give the older dog new toys too whenever you're giving new toys to the puppy, and give them to the older dog first.
Good luck. (And how cuuuuuuuuuuuuuute the tiny new baby must be.) Keep him safe!

I have been where you are. I have a 2 yr old yorkie and last yr I got a miniature schanuzer. When they first met they fought like crazy. We tried doing everything. Finally we put them in the same cage for a little bit (it was a small training crate) just to let them duke it out. Sampson, my yorkie, wouldn't even look at Lila. She tried to love up on him. We walked away and left them that way for a little bit. When we let them out they would fight again so we put them back in. The third time we let them out they started playing and now they are insepartable. You did the right thing in getting another dog while your yorkie was still at a young age. It will take some time but they'll get along and the 3 yr old will realize you did it a favor by getting him a play buddy. Try putting them in the same cage for a bit. Trust me it will all work out. Just be sure to keep showing him the same amount of attention you did before you got the new puppy. Or that will be a disaster.

Hey Hello,
We have one Yorkie - lots of work! Very demanding of your attention. They should get to like each other over time. And that should give you some peace. Try playing with both at the same time a lot. Mine likes to chase a ball.
You may have a conflict if both are Alpha males, or Alpha females. One will eventually submit to the other. You could force this a little. If you hold a dog (including a Yorkie) tight to your chest, they stop wiggling eventually. They have submitted to you. You could hold the pup down, while the older dog is allowed to run free, even sniffing the pup while you hold it. This would give the pup the feeling that the other dog was the Alpha.
Hope this helps.

I have three dogs and after your puppy grows up a little and is trained you will settle into a nice routine and it won't be so hard. Just give your older dog lots of attention so it doesn't resent the puppy Good luck! By the way Yorkies are adorable!

They may not ever totally love eachother but just tolerate each others presence. Bringing home a new puppy is like bringing home a new baby, it's a slow process. Try to be as positive as possible when the two pups are together using pos. reinforcement. Also once they get alittle use to each other engage in playful games and always reward good behavior w/ a puppy treat!!! Goodluck!!!

Yes, it just takes time. Take them for walks together and make sure to spend lots of time with the dog you already have.
