Of course....and we love it.
And we live in a country where we have the freedoms to
live as we choose. But, beware, we will fight to the death
anyone or anything that threatens our way of living.
History tells you alot about Americans. Don't take them
for granted.

We have become far too comfortable in this country; most people alive today never experienced the hardships of the Great Depression, or the tragedies of World War II.

Like lobsters languishing in a pot of lukewarm water, we'll never start screaming until the reprehensible politicians turn up the heat. Once the water reaches a boiling point, we'll start screaming in agony over our own apathy. But it will be too late.

Meanwhile, we preoccupy ourselves with maxxed-out credit cards; Britney Spears' love life; professional landscaping for our $300,000 houses; $3.00-a-gallon fuel for our $60,000 SUVs; Jacko's pedophilia; "low prices -everyday" at WalMart for junk we don't even need; and the latest rankings of our favorite baseball team.

Politicians just let the pot of water simmer so that we remain comfortable and don't start squirming. As long as they can distract us with trivial non-binding resolutions about flag burning and gay marriage, they don't have to do anything productive or useful for the country. So they just continue sucking off the taxpayers' teat.

We've become far too addicted to our material possessions, our personal addictions, and our lazy lifestyles. A second American revolution is overdue, but no one will start fighting until it's too late to claim victory over the Republican and Democratic parties who have such a stranglehold on our political system.

Thomas Jefferson once said; "The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants." That time is way overdue. And until we reach a level of discomfort, we won't do anything about it. -RKO-

I think that we are definitely preoccupied by material progress; more so than other industrialized nations. Just our fixation on SUVs for people who don't have need of their size, our ever increasing appetite for bigger housing, and the rise of hip-hop music which extols the greatness of acquiring possessions, should indicate to observant minds that America is quite shallow.

I always remember the lyric from the band Creed on their song “America”, where they speak of the irony of self professed predominately Christian nation having such an absorption with money when they said “Only in america we stamp our God ’in God we trust’”. It sums it up pretty poignantly if you ask me.

Lets FAce, the US, especially in teh North East, hjas a superficial population, it is about looks and things. There is no problem with that. It is all part of the I MEntality compared to the We mentality of theeastern cultures like Thialand or India.

I don't expect TOO many people to agree with us, but I would answer in the affirmative.
Materialism has failed people. Move along... there's nothing to see here.

Frankly, yes, we are. We are not very good about sharing our largess with the rest of the world. We have people who claim to have earned their homes, cars and toys through dint of hard work, totally ignoring the fact that many in the world work much longer hours and more days to earn so very much less.

Most definitely. People are apathetic nowadays...they don't care that the last few presidents (at least) have been systematically shredding the Constitution. As long as people can have fun, they just don't care.
