There are a couple ways you can go here.
#1 You can name your child a first name in honour of ONE of his favourite singers (Hank [Middle] [Last])
#2 Use the middle name as the name of the singer your husband admires.
A really good use of this solved two problems.
A woman could not have children and when you adopted her first child she wanted her child to have the same intials as her husband but also honour the great 3rd baseman Brooks Robinson (Baltimore Orioles).
The husbands initials were KBS. She named her son Kenneth (her husband's first name) Brooks (for Brooks Robinson) Sexton (their last name.
Even though their middle names differed their initials were the same and tied the adopted child to the adoptee father.
Hank is actually a name that is coming back into the public eye. (Hank Azeria [The Simpsons], Hank Williams Jr. [country music], Hank Aaron... just to name a few.
William is a good name to name after Hank Williams as well.
The name Merl is definately OUT. I would not even go there with a middle name. It is in with Earl and the such. Cash is a name that would be an excellent name as both a first or a middle name, though I would give the child a 'normal' first/middle name and if you were to call him that, use it more as a nickname.
There are a lot more naming tips that need to be addressed as well and you can find those at:

Don't name him Hank William. How about taking two names from your two favorite country singers? For example Sean Penn named his kid Hopper Jack after Dennis Hopper and Jack Nicholson. How about naming him Cash William? I think Cash is a cool name. It sounds strong and it's different but not bad different. I think Cash William is a cool name and wouldn't mind naming my own child that, except I don't really like country music :) Congrats on the new baby though!

I think no matter what name you choose kids will find a way to make fun of it if they put there mind to it. My name is Jasmine -- and about the fifth or sixth grade someone figured out if you say it fast enough it kind of sounds like Giz-um -- but I was never tortured with it.
I think Hank William is a cute name and I wouldn't worry about him getting made fun of too badly. Little kids his age won't even know who Hank Williams is.

No No No!!! Don't do this to your son!!! He will forever be made fun of being named Hank with all the Peytons and Dylans. How about William as the first name and your husbands first/middle name as his middle name.

Hank Williams is a wonderful name it don't matter what other people think it is what you like and what your Husband likes. If you like the name that is the name you need to go with. Why would ne one pic on him your not taking some one Else's name all these names out there are for ne one. There are soo many people out there with the same name it don't matter. I like the name you like the name and your husband likes the name soo STAY WITH THE NAME!!!
If you pic something else and then decide you don't like it after you already have it on his Birth Certificate then what are you going to do!! Just think about it get other ones in your head and after you have him you will know what name is right for him....
GOOD LUCK and don't worry about what other people think!!!
ITS NOT THERE CHILD ITS YOURS!!!

The decision is ultimately up to you, but Hank is a nickname for Henry, so you could always call him Henry, or you could name him Hank William and call him by his middle name instead. A friend of mine is half Hawaiian, and her first name is Chrystall, but her middle name is Kalini, which is the name she goes by. Do whatever you want, it's your baby!! Congrats!!
