I suffer from severe panic and anxiety attacks. Thus I'm phobic of exercise that makes my heart pound. How can I combat this? I need to lose weight. I'm currently on Zoloft and Remeron for the panic but attacks still break through if my heart pounds or races during exercise.
Also, how can I cope with the shortness of breath feeling of panic attacks? Breathing techniques don't work and I'm tired of yawning constantly.

Because of bad knees, I used something called THINS. It's a natural appetite suppresant (no stimulants, etc.) which helped me lose about 7 pounds a week. Not the healthiest approach, I know, but I was impatient and wanted to see quick results. I got mine from PreventionProof.com. I was just impressed with the fact that their research was very credible (Baylor College of Medicine, Georgetown University, American College of Cardiology, etc.) and not from some doctor's endorsement who was "on the payroll". ;-)) Good luck.

That is a bad problem. The only way to lose significant weight and increase fitness is really to get your heart pounding. Thats why cardiovascular exercise...burns fat. It also strengthens the heart. I think you may need cognitive behaviorial therapy so you can view exercise as not bad for your heart, but good. Also, you need to be aware of your body..and that an increased heart rate is good for the body when exercising. I suggest you control your panic attacks first..once those are under control, you can exercise without anxiety.

They make swim " pants" like they have in the olympics and many swimmers wear swim shirts. I would try the swimming route, you can control how high your heart rate goes and it is a relaxing excercise.
You do need to get your heart rate up some though.
Maybe your Dr. can get you into some therapy with a counselor that will give you techniques to deal with this.

You should do yoga. It might help you calm down and it won't elevate your heart rate much. Also, you could try taking a walk everyday. That with the yoga- your weight and anxiety will both go down.

exercise is a great way to lose weight, but dietary changes alone can do it, if you are appropriately dedicated and patient.
