When you have finished a strokeplay round your score is recorded and depending on the other scores that day your handicap will be adjusted, this used to be done manually I expect most golf clubs have a computer program to do it now.

For your handicap to go up 0.1 you have to be more than 2 shots over your handicap, eg. Handicap is 18.0, you score 91 and the standard scratch for the day is 72 your handicap will become 18.1. If your handicap gets to 18.5 you are now 19 handicap.

The standard scratch of the course can be different to the par as it is based on the average score of all the competitors, therefore it is important all players register their scores.

To get your handicap lower you must play below it, if you are 18 or above you get cut 0.3 for every shot you are below the standard scratch, between 18 and 6 you come down 0.2 and below 6 handicap you get cut 0.1 for every shot you are below the standard scratch.

Handicapping systems vary from country to country so it depends where you live. If you are saying you entered a wrong score then the Club Secretary can usually acccess the computer system to rectify matters.
