There's no solution to this problem! I have a similar situtation & I've tried looking at my watch repetetively, continuing to type on the computer, having a glazed over look on my face, saying I'm busy, etc. but to no avail! The best solution is to have a signal you can give someone (a text msg?) & have them call you on the phone.

Happens to me all the time, it's hard to. I just listen and as soon as I get the smallest break, I say "Sorry I have to be somewhere," or something like that. When I'm in a bad mood, I take slow steps in the opposite direction while the person is rambling, and they seem to get the hint.

Read up on assertiveness and determine what level of reaction is appropriate for your social situation.
"I'm afraid I have to get back to work. Can we talk more later?"
"My project is due. I have to let you go, so I can get back to it."
"My mom is signaling I have used up my on-phone time."
"I have to go eat. I will catch up with you later."

Pull your cell phone out of your pocket and look at it, like you just got a text message.
Say "I have to go."
