Suppose that evolution is right and your theory that God didnt make the universe and their isnt a higher being. What is your outlook on peace here on earth?

People with faith believe:
God will wipe out death, war, sickness, crime, etc...and restore the earth to a paradise

Evolutionist, would you rather believe in God and wait for the day that God executes judgement on the wicked and rid ourselves of problems?

Or, would you not believe and see the Earth get worse and worse without no hope of stopping and with more crime, death, war etc...?

Because, lets face it...governments for over 6000 yrs have proven that they can't do it right and we as humans can barely live or survive

What is your take?

Very complex question and I hate to do it but I'm going to answer a question with a question. If religion is so grand and righteous how come there are so many wars fought between religions.

I don't believe all religion is bad in fact I believe most religion is good despite not personally being religious. The true problem is people. While most religions teach acceptance and peace the people it tries to reach often do not respond appropriately either because they misunderstand the teachings or because they are using religion to make them selves feel better about their own poor actions.

I've had friends fight over different religions because they wanted to prove that their religion was more correct than the other. Conflicts are often born through religion.

I don't think either Evolutionists or Religious people create problems more than the other I think it's individuals from each group who create problems. I believe that greed and conflict are part of human nature and while many people are able to over come these many also fall prey to both and it doesn't matter whether or not they are religious.

If you look back at the Catholic curch for instance they used to unfairly tax people and practically ran the government. It wasn't because of the entire religion it was because of certain indavidual priests who were corrupt.

I hope that you are able to find an answer in all that I've written in here. If you have any questions on what I said feel free to email me at mudsplitter@yahoo.com

First, you don't know much about evolution. That is obvious from how you talk about it. Please go read a book younger than 2000 years old which better details evolution or debates the issue without resorting to fallacy.

Second, most (informed) people who believe in evolution also believe in God because the two are not mutually exclusive.

Third, even if evolutionists did not believe in God that does not mean they would not do their best to make the world a better place. You say governments have done poorly for 6000 years and that "humans can barely live...” Do you agree that you live in a shelter? Do you have running water and electricity most of the time? Do you agree that your ancestors (Be it Adam and Eve or any predecessor of the homo-sapiens) did not have these modern accommodations? Of course you answered yes to all of these questions. You must therefore agree that modern man is doing quite well considering no other known being has harnessed fire, discovered the wheel, or built an indoor plumbing system.

If there are more crimes and death, it is only because there are more people around now than ever before. In spite of the despair that you proclaim to be overwhelming, most of the people I know live happily and comfortably with very little want or worry.

Surely, civilization is evolving in marvelous new ways that will lead to an even better future. If the world is in pain, it is only because it is giving birth to a new and better one.

The evolutionists and religious are both correct. Isn't it possible that God created the world, but took a bit to mold it into what he/she wanted? I mean, when I was little, I played with Legos. I would start wanting a car, then took off the back wheels to make bigger wheels, then decided I wanted it to fly too, so it got wings....see where I'm going here? God may have just had changes of opinion when creating the world. And I do not want to hear any silliness that God created the world in seven days. Time to an all powerful, all knowing God is different then our time. Because using creationism itself, we know that God came first...what is a day to a God?

24 hours?

24 years?

24 billion years?

See my point? So if both sides would look at the issue rather then trying to prove a silly point, they would see that Creationism and Evolutionism are the same thing. God just took his time making a world he likes.

As for peace on Earth, it will never happen unless all religions are wiped out and narrowed down to one belief structure. Anytime you have such passion for something, you will defend it. That is human nature, and the joy (And fault) of free thinking.

What if your theory is wrong and God never comes to save us.

What you are implying is that we should just do whatever cause hell save us in the end. Whats the harm in trying to solve the worlds problems ourselves? if God does show up, either way well be fine, so why not try to improve it in the mean time if you're right? If you're wrong,. maybe we can save ourselves. If we just let our world go to s.hit, then it will, possibly with no help from God, who nobody has ever seen.

Peace can be achieved, just not in the present. it will eventually come down to a big war, and afterwards, there will be peace for a while, until people start fighting again. its a cycle that always has, and always will happen to humanity until the day we become extinct. look at every major empire and tell me im wrong. Egyptians, Alexander the Great, Romans, Napolean, Hitler, British, Soviet Union, and so on. Even America is seeing the downfall of its Superpower status, with a little credibility drifting away each day

"People with faith believe:
God will wipe out death, war, sickness, crime, etc...and restore the earth to a paradise"

He hasn't done anything to help, why should people believe that he's going to? Do you have a date?

"Or, would you not believe and see the Earth get worse and worse without no hope of stopping and with more crime, death, war etc...?"

This makes no sense. Instead of waiting for some false superhero to fly down and make everything right, GET OFF YOUR BUTT AND PERSONALLY DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!!!!

NOT governments but people have failed for the last 6000 years actually for far longer than that.

We as a people are evolving and will at some point come to figure out that helping each other to make a better earth is what we have to do to survive.

Tolerance, Communication, Understanding these things have to be taught to each generation only then will we start to see the full potential of humanity

Or how about another option?

People realise that they have to do for themselves because god ISN'T going to come down and end all suffering. Therefore people start actually working towards peace, scientist can work on curing sickness and staving off death with less restrictions, and oh yeah, that thing in the middle east between the jews and the muslims? Guess what that's about?

Religions have proven they can provide little but war for much longer than government has.

1.) There is no "supposing" about it--evolution is a fact. It is simply the theory that explains the natural phenomena that scientists observe, which involves the readily-seen development of life from simple forms to more complex ones. Creationism--the fantasy that all life sprang magically from the hand of a deity in a matter of days--is NOT supportable. You would know this if you would spend a little more time studying science and less time at creationist websites that explain nothing.

2.) People with faith in God believe many things, none of them based in reality. Your desire to see some joy-filled utopia arrive upon the earth, is no different than the Australian Aborigines' longing for the return of the Dream Time, or the Aztecs' hope for the return of Quetzalcoatl. Such notions of saviors bringing paradise to the world have been around for at least as long as recorded history. Where do you think Christians got the idea? You think they invented it?

3.) What does evolution have to do with striving to make the world a better place? It is a scientific theory, not a recipe for improving humanity. You are confusing the two--why, I don't know, but I'm sure it has something to do with #1 above. Please educate yourself. You will be accepted into a better college if you do.

4.) You seem to think that humans can be improved only by believing in God--specifically, YOUR God, ignoring the hundreds of others that people worship. This shows me that you know nothing of the history of your own religion, with its witch hunts, Inquisitions, lynch mobs, intolerance, hatred, and holy wars. You seem to be ignoring the many stories of priests, ministers, and other Christians who molest children, rape women, deal drugs, and steal money from their own congregations; and you are ignorant of Christians who beat up, harass, and even kill homosexuals, and who parade around with signs saying "God hates fags." If your God is so great at improving humanity, then why doesn't he start with those who worship him? If he can't do s*** for them, I certainly see no reason to believe that he'll do anything for the whole of humanity. He couldn't even get it right in Genesis, why do you imagine he'll do better at some far-off point in the future??

5.) You've been awaiting your own version of a savior for 2000 years. What happened to him? Did he get stuck in traffic? Is he hanging out at a bar with all the other saviors--Osiris, Mithra, Quetzalcoatl, etc.--who also promised to return?

6.) You need to learn to accept that the world is as it is, warts and all, and work on making things better in whatever way YOU can, instead of wasting your life hoping that someone else will do your job for you. There is no sky-nanny who will come running over to solve all of our problems and make us all feel better. It's just us humans here, struggling the best way we know how, and if we don't help each other, nobody will.

That's like saying that instead of getting a job, you'll sit around and wait for one to come to you, instead of going out and finding one yourself.

Why should peace be God's responsibility? Even if you're a staunch creationist, you should know and believe that since we got ourselves into this mess (by eating the forbidden fruit in the garden of Eden), we should at least work to get ourselves out of it again, instead of relying on God. Besides, as other posters have already mentioned, religion has actually been a CAUSE of crime, death, war, etc.

Also, why do you assume that you have to be a creationist to believe in God? You can be a good Christian and still believe in evolution; they're not mutually exclusive.

governments and religions go hand in hand. if you go further back in time, you'll find there weren't governments or religions. the human race was doing fine. there were no wars, no famine, no religious conflict, and no population problems. this started to change about 12,000 years ago with the beginning of widespread agricultural practices.
the outlook of peace on earth is not good because there are too many people with too any religious ideas about how we should live our lives. people of faith ignore the fact that we have to take an active role to solve the problems that face us today. it is easy to sit back while all of this is going on around us and say god will take care of it all, but it is hard to accept personal responsibility and come up with solutions. until people change this mentality, thing will only get worse. try reading Ishmael and The Story of B by Daniel Quinn. it is fiction, but many of its points are rooted in anthropology and history.
