I have an Intel MacBook Pro and a JVC Everio HD Camcorder that records files in the .mpeg or .mpg format. I want to use those video files with iMovie and iDVD. Currently, those programs (along with QuickTime) do not support mpeg-2 video files, from what I understand. Is there any way (preferrably free) to make these compatible, so that I can use iMovie and iDVD for my .mpeg or .mpg video files?

Quicktime Pro should handle it. Best $30 I've ever spent.

you probably have to convert them to mpeg-4 files.

I would try Quicktime Pro. or see if you can change the format on your camera.
