Probably because you're very attractive and they want to be involved with you. Asking your number is just the first thing they can think of. That's a pretty lame tactic if I do say so myself. My technique has always been to identify something they have on, and start a conversation about it. "Excuse me, I'm sorry if I come off like an idiot, but that shirt just looks outstanding on you. I mean you look GREAT!" Hopefully she'll respond with something better than "Go away, loser." which opens the door to a friendly handshake and "I'm Adam, by the way. And you are?" Then just take it from there.

Probably because your very attractive and guys turn into slobbering idiots and say about the only thing they can. Hey, better to be the girl who gets the digits, then the girl who gets the cold shoulder.

i think it do happen in a case were these guy will like want to know you or get along with you, but could not tell you to at ur face cuz they are scared of the way u might react, are u soo beautiful

What ever you are doing I don't know what is putting out a signal that you want the attention. Change your behavior and you will change how people react to you.
