I know the type you speak of.
The subject is usually under 20 years of age, usually male, shaved head, car with speakers fit for a function room, pink furry dice in the front, the word 'Kenwood' plastered all over the vehicle, blacked-out windows (because they are ever-so-mysterious) and extra features may also include neon lights underneath the vechile to give it that 'Close-encounters' vibe.
The 'chav' (as they are usually called) may choose to 'ride' with his 'boo'.
This type usually wears gold-sprayed budgie swings in her ears, hair immaculately molded to her head ( a painful procedure that is rumoured to involved superglue) and may be the culprit behind the many 'Dance ultra-sound 2k6' Cd's playing on the male-chav's 'boom box'.
I think that's the description done. The male is obviously making up for some loss of control. They feel that if they go over the speed limit (or any speed that could possibly kill a child instantly) they are somewhat 'macho' or superior than the other drivers. Well. Many of these 'boy-racers' have the blood of children on their hands due to their pathetic attempts to 'look' and seem as if they are 'oh-so-cool' and as old-timers may call it - 'with it'.
These people are pretty pathetic and laughable really!

In an effort to prove 'something'.
It's not just at lights. I quite often when leaving the city get stuck behind / beside a boy-racer (5 of them) wedged into a corsa with a 1.2 engine & a wastepaper bin for an exhaust.
...No, you can't out accelerate *%$*....pull over and let me through (double flash of lights)....they will NORMALLY comply. I scoot past and they dissapear into the distance...a couple of minutes later this 'car' has worked its way up to 75mph and is gaining on me....(touch throttle a wee bit)...OK now he's got to max it out to a hairdryer screaming 80...hmm, should I let 'em past, yes? no?...Yeh, they deserve it for the effort it took!! After all - now they can go home & brag how the blew off my........family saloon car :P

That's a generalization. Statistically what you say is true, but there is that percent that are great drivers. That's why I think it's unfair insurance costs so much for young people, even though I have 3 years until I'm 16.....But anyways...
It could be for the thrill of it.

I think it must be part of the growing up process.
I've got to admit I was a bit of a boy racer 'till I smashed a few cars up and realised how stupid I was.
Sometimes it just takes a few lessons to learn that life is precious

Cos they are tw@ts..... hahahaha....... what i do, is to press the accelerator, rev the f*** out of my Jeep and then when the lights go green, let them wheel spin in to the distance... makes my day......
I used to have a TVR and I must admit, I couldn't resist pi$$ing all over them at the lights.... yet they still had a go in their rattling little cars...

they like to show off in front of there girlfriends when in fact it makes them look like complete twats, and all there really doing it getting to an early grave if they carry on like it.
