The Bishop of London has said flying is sinful because of its effect on the environment.

Well, the bishop was simply saying that flying is a very bad form of transportation from an environmental point of view. Contrary to the majority opinion of the first few contributor flying actually does pump out a lot more carbon per person per mile than most other forms of travel. But whatever form of travel you take (except cycling and walking) you will pump out carbon. But flying just happens to pump out relatively more than other forms. So perhaps it should considered "more sinful", if it is possible to be more sinful. I guess what the bishop might really have been trying to say was that we should a) Try to use less of those device that do pump out carbon and take personal responsibility for lessenning our use ie switch off lights, only boil enough water for a cup of tea/coffee etc and b) make the ecological choice when we do have alternatives such as using the train rather than the plane

I'm from a christian family but that statement is stupid who ever said it needs their brains checking. sorry if i have seemed to offend you but some people really p!ss me off trying to make people believe silly stuff that can't possibly true. So cars are sinful as well they're just as bad if not worse than planes. Quick everyone sell your cars and walk everywhere. NOT. I bet the Bishop of London flys when he goes overseas.

You were probably sleeping during the sermon or the Bishop didn't know what he was saying. God does not hold anyone responsible for environmental offenses. it is not sin to throw away waste products. what might be unacceptable and offensive is doing so at the detriment of others. check the tend commandments. God gave Man dominion over all He created. its left to us to try and manage what He gave us and not be prodigal about it.

If it is, then almost everything is sinful. Driving your car is sinful, turning on a lightbulb is sinful, buying anything is sinful due to the energy used to create it and transport it to you. I think the Bishop of London is insane.

how the fu*k does he think we're supposed to travel across oceans? on a boat? that would take too long. besides, cars are much worse than jets on the environment. does he ride a bike?

Ok. Ask him if he's committing a sin everytime he drives his car on the road. Oh excuse me I mean everytime he rides his Limo on the road.

The Bishop is entitled to his opinion.

I wish I could deal in black and white like he does.
