evryone says that basset hounds like to stay in pairs and are very friendly.like they want you to play with them and they are always taking up the whole couch.is it true?any other things like that?

They ARE very people oriented. Their are some drawbacks to the breed however. They DROOL a lot. They are lazy and stubborn to. They are prone to eye disorders like cherry eye. Do a LOT of research on this and any other breed you are considering. Not just testimonials from friends either. Look up any and all information on-line about them. Make sure you get a breed of dog that will fit into your lifestyle so you are both happy.

Bassets are great dogs, they are a bit lazy indoors so the couch thing is most likely true. They are low and heavy so they can develop some leg problems. As with any other long eared dog they are also prone to ear infections. If you want an energetic puppy with the same hound dog expression of a basset I'd recommend a beagle. They are stubborn but adorable and full of energy.

Basset hounds were bred to be hunting dogs and when they hunt, they hunt in small groups. So it makes sense that they would prefer the companionship of another dog.
Bassets are adorable puppies but do grow up to be BIG dogs. They aren't tall but they are long and heavy. They can have a tendency to easily develop ear infections and have a very unique (not always pleasant) odour associated with them.

my daughters basset hound is definitely a couch hog. he also has a huge sweet tooth and will pass up meat in favor of candy. he is an only dog and will play with the cat. he is very affectonate and never meets a stranger so he is definitely not a guard dog. he also wants his own pillow in the bed.

they r adorable but be come very heavy and big. they also gas alot. no lie. they are hunting dogs too. they will take off. BElieve me. I did the reasearch and we almost got one but they get bloated so easily and really gas soooo badly they have to have special diet. plus they have that famous houndy odor. but i dont think it matter with any dog . they can be alone but with a partner they r happier with someone to play with. but could have high attachment to the other pet and when one passes away the other dog becomes very depressed usually.
