My German Shepherd suddenly started acting like he's spooked by something. It started last night while he was asleep by the front door. Suddenly he jumped up, ran into the next room, and kept looking over his shoulder like something was there. Today, he's wimpering and acting spooked again. What could have happened?

I read an article last week that certain breeds of dogs can detect terminal illness in their owners. When the do they show behaviors such as the one you are describing. If I were you I would go to the doctor as soon as possible!! Sorry to hear about your sudden illness. I would probaly start to get things in order(will,funeral arrangements) before you become to weak to do so.Live it up!! You never know which day is going to be your last!!Again, sorry to hear about the sudden terrible turn of events.

Maybe there was some kind of bug on your dog's arm. Or maybe, there is something your dog is hearing that you can't hear; you know like at a really high frequency
it could be an air plane or train in the distance... or maybe some neighbors CDs?

do you believe in ghost.. You most likely have a spirit of some kind in your house unless someone is outside that door playing tricks.. My dog sits and barks towards the kitchen at night.. so I know i have a spirit of somekind here. it just hasn't made it's self known to me yet..
Your dog will get over it.. and get used to what ever is causing its uneasiness.
he will be fine just baby him for a while and he will know that you aren't going to let anything hurt him..

They say dogs and cats can feel evil. So maybe there is a evil spirit in your house. Did something happen recently? Check it out. if you just recently moved into the house look into if someone was killed there before.

he might have heard wildlife. My dogs wake up a lot at night and usually go to the back door but sometimes they stand there and whimper. Are their any windows in those rooms? I know it was wildlife because I saw the raccoons.

maybe he saw something scary, or had a dream. try spending more time with him, he shud calm down. and let him sleep with u at nights, so he wont be scared,
