My two yr old had been diagnosed, from almost birth, with eczema.I di NOT want her on a cream that contains steroids and up til now,it has been under control.I have used benadryl and hydrocortizone creams.I also tried a eczema cream, made for babies, that they sell in the store.Does anyone have any ideas on something, especially home remedies, that might help control the rash.IF I cannot get it under control,I am going to talk to her pediatrician to see what she can prescribe. Thanks all.

My 5 yr old has eczema break outs due to food and environmental allergies. We use Elidel to control his break outs when they occur. It's a non-steroid prescription cream that is safe for children 2 and older that was prescribed by his allergist. Now that she's two I'd also recommend getting her tested for allergies. My son had eczema also almost from birth, was breastfed, and when he was 2-1/2 was tested and diagnosed with peanut and tree nut (pretty much any other nut out there) allergies. Looking back it made sense that he had ezcema as an infant because I LOVE nuts and eat them alot. It went away at around 10 months (after he was weaned) and returned in full force at about 2 when he started eating peanut butter. I still didn't make the connection until he was tested though. After revising his diet his skin has been much better. Although, he can still have a flair up even if a classmate is eating a peanut butter sandwich next to him at lunch.

My little boy had eczema on his cheeks. I was not sure what method to use but I didn't want to make my boy go through any surgery treatments at this young age. Some suggested a plastic surgeon since it was in a very visible location but our family doctor recommend this natural guide.

Try Eurserin cream...it comes in a big jar at Wal-mart in the lotion department...they also have an equate brand that is a couple bucks for a large jar. It will last a while and is a thick white cream. I also wash her 3 times a week with a Dove bar and cover her head to toe twice a day with the new Vaseline non scent moisturizing lotion. It has not come back since...good luck.

Put yourself in her shoes. If the cream that had steroids in it worked, would you try it? You have no idea how eczema feels and it's even worse for her because she can't do anything about it--only you can. If you were smart about it you would do anything to help her with her discomfort. If the cream with steroids works, why not use it? It's foolish not to if other things just don't seem to work. As for home remedies, put an ice pack on it.

my doctor prescribed a vasiline type crean called aquaphor. It worked well on my sons neck but it's kind of greasy, BOth my kids have it though my daughter 's is worse. I just use babysoap or dove on both of then and i lotion them up as soon as they get dried off and after each trip to the pool or beach i rinse them off and relotion them, When they have flare ups i use 1% hydrocortizone cream and on occation the oat meal bath. My niece has to use lubroderm but she's 8 and nothing helped her so now she's patched in her elbows and behind her knees she's golden tan everywhere but those places and those places are almost white

My grandson has been doing the same and they put him on an allergy medicine. Some eczema's are viral and have to be treated as such. Take the child to a dermatologist if you have not. The treatment that your child is currently getting is standard.
My grandson was on creams and it didn't help but once they put him on Zyrtec it stopped.

Eczema patients can avoid scratchy fibers for softer ones like bamboo, cotton, or silk, which are gentler on the skin. Opting to buy organic fibers can also be a wise, healthy, and eco-friendly alternative. Learn here https://tr.im/UdXHd

My son is the same way, I have always used hydrocortisone. I also find that oatmeal baths (like Aveeno) followed by a lotion intended for extremely dry skin immediately following the bath help a lot. Try not to bathe her every day if you can help it, because excessive bathing can dry the skin out. Also try switching your laundry soap to something really mild, like Dreft. Sometimes soaps can irritate the condition. Good luck, I know it's no fun! I hope she gets better!
