My son did the same thing. He would come home from school and the 1st stop was the bathroom. He is 21 yrs old now and works a full time job and still poops every day at about 3:30 crazy enough, he formed a habit which will probably go on for a lifetime.
Me and my daughter got a lot of laughs out of it. and of course we knew to clear out the bathroom so he could go at 3:30.

My little boy is six and he does the exact same. It kinda makes me sad because I don't know how this really makes him feel he is 6 and will be going to 1st grade but he will not even do it in any public place at all.
I think he is just very uncomfortable because of the way I have always preched to him about not touching the toilet. But I am not sure. Also they may feel they will take to long and they are already being rushed. I have also thought that maybe the toilets are just way to big and much differnent than ours.
I don't know what it is because I can get nothing out of him but that he didn't want to there. But anyway you are not alone on this one. I bet though if it really got real bad that he will do it when it comes down to it. It just hasn't been that bad yet.
Good Luck!!!!!!!

This isn't something to laugh at, though I admit the tales told by some of the people responding to your question are amusing. I, too, do not like to use public restrooms, however, I always try to keep with me a small store of huggies baby wipes to clean the seat before I sit down on it and to clean myself up when I have to defecate. Being in a public toilet gives me the heebie-jeebies. I'm pretty regular, though, and I usually go early in the morning and sometimes again at night, thus I avoid having to use a public facility. Obviously, this is not always possible, and when you gotta go you gotta go. I would encourage you to create a comfort kit for your child so that he feels more at ease about using the restroom at school when he has to poop. Also, I'd address the situation with his teacher so that she is aware of your concern and can gently remind him to use the bathroom if she notices him exhibit any behaviors that might indicate he has to use the toilet. Also, talk to his pediatrician. The doctor might have some useful advice to share with you both. I'm very concerned that your son is going four days without pooping. This is not normal behavior. Finally, I encourage you to visit the site below. Your son may have a condition similar to the one discussed there. I wish you and your son the best.

he probably doesn't feel comfortable doing it in a public toilet--which is understandable. my hubby(23) still won't use a public restroom when he has to do #2. some people just don't like sitting down on a toilet that has been used by a million other people! lol.
i wouldn't worry. just try and get him to go before school if it hurts him to hold it in all day..or if he is fine waiting until the end of the day, no problem. it's also normal for him to not go for several days. some people poop once a day, several times a day, a couple times a week, or even once a week. it just depends on your body.
just make sure he is eating his fruit and veggies. if he seems comfortable with his "schedule" i wouldn't pressure him to change it. he is old enough to let his body decide when it wants to go and not. ;-)

I did too. Even in high school. Even now!!!! Sometimes people do not like to poop unless they are in the comforts of home. I only go in public when im on the verge of crapping my pants. Last time I went in public....I was at a museum and the ladies room was packed!! I made up this story to a security guard that I was diabetic and needed my insulin and wanted a private place to do it....so they let me use the employee bathroom.

I think many people of all ages will empathise with your son. Not only is it embarassing doing a number two in public toilets but such toilets just don't have the comfort of home. It's even worse in school where the toilets (especially ones for the boys) tend to be cold and smell.
You need to get your son into good toilet habits at home if he won't go in school. If he's constipated, give him plenty of fresh orange juice, Weetabix, raisans, vegatable soup, porridge, etc so he's going more often and it's not so clogged up in him. Encourage him to go to the toilet before school and when he comes homes.

well I never pooped while in school when I was little, because you would be made fun of, it was untill the later parts of my high career, that boys would take a poop at school, and make fun of themselves, in fact the last time I myself took a poop at school I to was seven, and they were looking over and under the stall and laughing, so I hurried up an finished and tried to play it off. There was a instense in middle school where we were in gym, and this boy starts crying, so we start calling him gay, and the gym teacher said whats wrong with, he said I have to dookey, and the teacher said just do it there goes the toliet, and he was so scard of being made fun of the boy pooped hes pants on the bus home, because he didnt want to use the bathroom or school

Your son most likely needs to feel relaxed and comfortable to go. That can be difficult when you have little time and less than perfect conditions in the cleanliness dept. But four days is too long to wait. You could ask your child's doc for a med called Miralax. It is very mild taken daily and my son usually goes within 30 min after it is given in the morning. This eliminates the need to go away from home. Good luck with this.

this gives me flashbacks of when my daughter was 4 and refused to poop. I'm not sure what started it..maybe a difficult bowel movement that hurt and the she didn't want to go through it again. Also maybe there was an incident in school if that's the only place he wont go. 4 days is a long time..and the more they hold it in the more painful and difficult it is ago. Try talking to his peditrician..he/she may have suggestions. Ask him if he's having any pain and why he's scared to go. I had to give my daughter suppositories and spend a lot of time coaxing her to go..it wasnt fun. Good luck..I feel your pain.
