Does God want you to have nice things like a nice home and car, or does he want us to just be happy with what we "need" and not get what we "want?"

We are God's children, and like most parents, he wants his children to have nice things. It is not money that is the root of all evil...it is the love of it. I believe we are given what we need to survive and anything else he wants us to work for. If hard work allows us to have nice things, he will not look down upon us for that. What's important is that we don't forget that what we recieve in life is all temporary. It is a gift FROM God and meant to be shared or passed on. So if we have nice things, God is happy for us as long as we don't hoard these things and worship them above him.

Sure God wants us to have whatever makes us happy, up to the point where our "possesions" become more important in our life than our love for Him.

We're not supposed to have any gods BEFORE him, and Jesus said it's easier to pass a camel through the eye of a needle than it is for a rich man to enter Heaven- he didn't say he couldn't but just that it's unlikely.

I'd rather have the need than that want. I can't put food in a Playstation 2. But if he want's us to have nice things he'll give us an oppurtunity I guess. Not too familiar with the needs and wants thing too well.

I have a hunch you have been listening to somebody in the "Word of Faith" movement. In Phillippians 3, Paul tells about knowing how to be content in all things, because it is Christ who strenghtened him. When the Apostle wrote this, he was in a Roman prison, that scholars figure was rat infested, chained between two guards 24/7 where he could not even relieve himself without somebody watching him, and the next time he saw the light of day again was when he was taken out and executed. Yet, he talks about having the joy of Christ through it all!

Does God want *ME* to have nice things? Of course. Would a father whose child asked for a fish give him a serpent?

Maybe. I'm not God. I know God wants us to enjoy life, but that the enjoyment must come from a meaningful relationship with Him, which means submitting to God's will.

One can have nice things.. That's fine, nothing wrong with it.. But it's when an individual(s) start flaunting it around and drawing attention to one's self and such.. That's when it becomes wrong. Though yes, you do need to draw the line between want and need.

how does it go...? "for it would be easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of heaven"...... I think that's it. There really is no justification for having things other than what we "need".... but we all have those things anyways.... including myself.... but I don't pretend like God "wants me to have it".... I want to have it....

The epic rack were given my pastime. besides as they could say, their god has blessed me with 2 toddlers that do properly in college, a sturdy homestead, and a sturdy relations. I see it as, only taking a own duty "no longer god" to make this stuff take position.

Getting what you want is fine .. if there is a god, and that god is just, all that he would ask is that we see to it that NOBODY has needs first.
