do NOT put oil in the water. It will only float on the top and get smeared all over the pasta when you drain it, thus preventing your sauce from sticking to your pasta and you will have a goopy mess. Instead make sure to use a large pot with lots of boiling water ...way more than you think you need. and don't forget to add salt. I guarantee you it will not stick!!

Adding olive oil to the water when you boil the noodles will keep them from sticking together, make sure to boil noodles for recommended time and check them to ensure neither to hard or soft.

Check out America's Test Kitchen. They recommend adding a little of your pasta cooking water to thin down thick sauces. If you use olive oil the sauce won't stick at all to the pasta, which isn't ideal either.

Use a VERY SMALL amount of olive oil in the water when you boil them with a pinch of salt added. Rinse with cold water then place back in the hot pan (stove off) and stir occasionally with a wooden spoon.

Do not put your pasta in the pot until your water comes to a full boil. Make sure there is plenty of water in the pot to begin with. Do not over cook it. As soon as it reaches the desired doneness drain and rinse it thoroughly.
