Its an eternal argument which divides people all over the world. People fight about it. Couples divorce over it. But, when the chips are down, youre either cool for cats or hot for dogs. Some people even pretend to like both but, if you could only save your dog or your cat from a grisly fate, which one would you choose? Are cats cooler than dogs or are dogs better that cats? Here, Ian Black sorts out this age-old question in his usual comic style.

FOR THE CATS. Cats are cool. There even used to be a TV programme called Cool for Cats, run by some human pretending to be cool. He wasnt because only cats are cool.

FOR THE DOGS. Dogs arent cool. Dogs are warm. Dogs are dogged. When a dog loves you, he loves you through to the marrow of your bones and for ever. If they dont have dogs in heaven, then I want to go where they do. The one absolutely unselfish friend that man can have in this selfish world, the one that never deserts him, the one that never proves ungrateful or treacherous, is his dog. A mans dog stands by him in prosperity and poverty, in health and sickness. He will lick the hand that has no food to offer. He will guard the sleep of his pauper master as if he were a prince.

Consider:

Cats are intelligent but only show it when they want to.
Dogs are stupid and dont care if they show it or not.
Cats give food to whoever they are loyal to.
Dogs are loyal to whoever gives them food. Even people who hit them. Doh!

DOGS OR CATS ITS TIME TO CHOOSE!

Well now let's see. -- I've seen my cat see a dog coming into our yard, hide behind a corner, and when the dog came mumbling past, jump out and attack it. I've also seen my cat open doors, even when the door opens towards him. I've seen my cat learn to use a door bell, (yeah it had a really big push button) to let me know when he wanted to come in. My cat knows what the bottle of milk in the refrigerator looks like. He even knows that if he asks, he will get just a drop or two. LOL He doesn't ask, he demands. Want more? He follows me around the yard when I am working. And lets me know when it is time to go to bed. Want more?

Cats are much more intelligent than dogs.

I personally think that cats are smarter than dogs. cats are independent, know how to occupy themselves easily, low maintence and they're the kind of pet that doesn't take any **** from nobody!! remember, cats aren't stupid enough to pull a sled in the middle of a snowstorm!! my mom had a cat that my grandparents dumped in the middle of nowhere on a country road. believe it or not, that cat CAME BACK!!!!! I don't think a dog would ever do that!!! I LUVVVVVVVV CATS, but don't get me wrong, I LUVVVVVVVVV DOGS as well. I just view them differently. you have to train dogs to be good companions and personally, I don't have time for that. so cats are definatly smarter!!!!!

I think cats are actually smarter than dogs; that's why they refuse to be trained. Cats are definitely more selfish. A dog will do anything for you as long as you like him. A cat will do whatever it wants.

I know right. I think the same. I love dogs. I love their company. I don't like cats because they shed a lot and are always sleeping.

Cats are independent creatures and one has to deserve their love and respect. Once you manage this, you'll see there's no better friend and companion than a cat.
With dogs it is simpler, 'cause you teach them everything - you teach them to play with you when you want, you teach them to listen to you, you teach them to "love" you... but can you say it's real?
