do you also believe all that nonsense about sacrificing animals and when you can be near a menstuating woman?

If not, how do you explain all that being wrong, but the gay part being right?

It doesn't matter if there are other parts of the Bible that say gay=wrong. If you believe one part, don't you believe it all? So, you're saying we should just forget that whole Leviticus part? It wasn't the word of God after all?

Okay, so the Old Testament is out, but we still have to believe Genesis, right, and that whole Noah thing? Wait, are there other books in the OT for which that whole "salvation" clause is not binding? I'm starting to get really confused as to which parts of the Bible I should follow and which I should just forget about cuz they don't count...

Hi Phoenix,

According to Christianity as taught in the New Testament, Christ came to make the once-for-all sacrifice. So sacrifices are not needed anymore. As far as the mentruating woman, cleanliness laws were also rendered null by Christ. I don't have my bible handy, but in a few places it mentions cleanliness restrictions as being void because of the coming of Christ.

Your point makes logical sense, but remember in the New Testament, homosexuality is also listed as a sin. Paul goes into some detail about it in Romans chapter 1, and it is mentioned in a few other places.

I'm a gay man, so I have some sturggles with that issue. However, I will reserve judgement on it - just because the bible says something I don't particularly like or something that causes me some inconvenience because of the way I live, does not make it untrue or a myth.

I have gay friends who insist that all the verses in the bible against homosexuality are "mistranslations" or "additions." That may be the case, but then if every person who read the bible decided that each part they didn't like should be taken out, there would be nothing left of the thing. So I retain an open mind about such matters. I just continue to pray for guidance.

Keep asking questions, this was an interesting one...

Love, Jack

The Bible mentions that homosexuality is wrong numerous times in the Bible, both in Old and New testament. God says that homosexuality is not natural. He made a man and a woman to be together, not man and man or woman and woman. Why do you think he made our bodies the way they are. Man and woman fit together for a reason.
I am definitely not a Bible scholar so I may not explain this as thoroughly as someone else could.
I figured this out with the help of my Singles Ministry pastor when I was 20.
In the Old Testament, people sacrificed animals because it was their way of asking forgiveness from God for their sins (all their bad deeds). They were dedicating their material possessions. But they had to do it over and over again but how can you say, "God, I stole something today, here is a bull and I hope this covers my sins". No way! A bull sure won't cover all my sins. That is why God so loved his people that he sent his only son to be sacrificed for everyone so that we would never again have to go to temple and offer sacrifices again. And if you believe that God sent his son Jesus and believe in Jesus, and ask Jesus to forgive you for your sins, He will and you will go to Heaven because he payed your debt. In comes the New Testament.
About the law of not being near a menstruating woman, I am not sure. I haven't studied that very much. I do know, that God states plain and clear that homosexuality is wrong. "You shall not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is an abomination (Leviticus 18:22; c.f 20:13)." Check Romans and Proverbs, too.

Christians today no longer live under the Old Testament. That was the whole purpose of Jesus dying on the cross. That did away with the old law and ushered in the new law, The New Testament. Don't get me wrong though, homosexuality is still very much condemned by God in the New Testament also... God tells how the homosexual will not see Heaven. That's very easy to understand!

How is Leviticus "rules for Jews?" Because its old testament? So now we have christians claiming that they don't have to follow the "rules" of the old testament because they're not Jews?

Wow...if that's not the ultimate contradiction. If people claim the bible (the WHOLE bible) is the word of God, how can they then choose to ignore the parts they don't like? They are still ignoring the word of God...regardless of in which testament it appears!

That just goes to show the extreme ignorance of the people who choose to selectively hold up the bible and preach at others as if they know what God wants. They have no idea what God wants because they ignore (evidently) more than half the bible.

Don't "let us know" when you're Jewish...but please, please let us know when you have a clue.

The animals were sacrificed so the people could be cleansed of their sins. It is not necessary to do that now, because Jesus became the perfect and last sacrifice necessary for mankind to receive forgiveness of sins.

God declared people, objects, and food temporarily or permanently unclean under certain circumstances. These regulations were spiritually symbolic, though at the time literally required.

Homosexuality remains the same in the eyes of the Lord whether you look in the Old or New Testament.

People pick and choose what they desire to believe in the bible. They reject what is offensive to them, what they can't understand, or what goes against the grain of their personal choices. The bible is not a 'buffet table' that allows you to take only what you want to eat, but a 'main course' meant to be served in its entirety and fully consumed.

these are two different things. This was the Levitical Law. It was written for Israel and for them to abide by during that time (and if you know anything about health and sanitation, as well as other pertinent facts about that era, you know that God's rules for them were perfect).

None of it was nonsense. God gave these requirements for a reason (several reasons, actually). It's easy for you, thousands of miles and millenia removed from the scene, to sit in judgement on something you know basically nothing about. But that is the province of small minds [to do what you're doing by doing so].

As a Gentile not living in the Old Testament times and not under the Law, I am able to see God's laws for those who were under the Law and see His laws/commands for those not under the Law.

Homosexuality was always wrong, an abhorrent abomination before Him. We can see from the New Testament teaching that His view of homosexuality has always been the same, that it was an abomination.

This [declaration about homosexuality] obviously wasn 't declared just for health reasons (as were some of the other ritual requirements given in the OT Law), but has clearly always been His declaration on homosexual behavior.

Homosexuality is a dramatic twisting and perversion of something He created perfectly, so obviously He hates it.

The Old Testament is NOT null and void. God is consistent. He does not change. When He says something, you can live by it, whether it is said in the Old Testament or the New Testament. Yes God is dealing with people through grace instead of the Law, but He has not changed. Paul tells us that the Law was never meant to justify people but rather to bring people to Christ:

(Galatians 3:23-25 NIV) {23} Before this faith came, we were held prisoners by the law, locked up until faith should be revealed. {24} So the law was put in charge to lead us to Christ that we might be justified by faith. {25} Now that faith has come, we are no longer under the supervision of the law.

You are refering to the mosaic Law which is nolonger binding , as regards obtaining Salvation....Do some honest Bible study and that will be made clear to you.

However, that, in the eyes of God, homosexuality is an abomination is still a fact.... that dose not preclude a homosexual from Salvation. All who come to God in The Way He proscribes will recieve His gift of Salvation.

In all things, God makes The Rules... you and I can not make our own... come to God on His terms... if you do not....then you do not get to do the Heaven thing.

the precise reference you're looking for is Leviticus 20:13 "If a guy has sexual kinfolk with a guy as one does with a lady, both one among them have executed what's detestable. they're to be placed to lack of existence". definite, you study that wisely, placed to lack of existence. type of attainable how Christians go away that one out isn't it? Now i'm easily no longer suggesting that Christians might want to pass the total hog and commence executing gay human beings, what i'm affirming is in the experience that they could overlook about one 0.5 of the verse, why no longer purely overlook about the different 0.5 too and settle for gays? @ Jayme. You obviously are ignoring it because what area of "they're to be placed to lack of existence" is uncertain? There are purely 2 concepts right here both a million. i'm mendacity, the bible does no longer say that or 2. you're ignoring it, and we are able to easily %. up a bible and prepare it isn't the first selection. @ Jack. The penalty for homosexuality is upheld in Romans, which in case you do not understand is contained in the hot testomony.

It is true many of the laws in Leviticus were intended only for the Israelites. However some of these laws are reiterated in the new testament. As far as Homosexuality see

Romans 1:18 - 32 specifically verse 26 and 27.

That is why God abandoned them to their shameful desires. Even the women turned against their natural way to have sex and instead indulged in sex with each other. And the men, instead of having normal sexual relations with each other. And the men instead of having normal sexual relations with women burned with lust for each other. Men did shameful things with other men, as a result of this sin, they suffered within themselves the penalty they deserved.

Also see 1 Timothy 1:1 - 11

"For the law was not intened for people who do what is right. It is for people who are lawless and rebellious, who are ungodly and sinful, who consider nothing sacred and defile what is holy, who kill their father or mother or commit other murders. The law is for people who are sexually immoral, or who practice homosexuality or are slave traders, liars, promise breakers, or who do anything else that contradicts the wholesome teaching that comes from the glorious Good News entrusted to me by our blessed God"
