If not, then why is "I'll pray for you" offensive to some people?

I used to get angry about the 'I'll pray for you' comment, but now I just take it as a good blessing. Even if it's not in a positive way, as in "I believe it's ok to have sex before marriage", and their response is "I'll pray for you". Well, heck I can take some good thoughts directed my way, even if it's from a judgemental person.

Someone said they'd wash my car for me last week, but since I don't own a car, I did get offended when they started squirting my face with window cleaner.

People can pray for me all they want. It doesn't bother me. Except of course when the "I'll pray for you" is accompanied with "because you're going to Hell for not accepting the love of Jesus" Or something to that extent.

Because they are so ego-centric that they can't understand that different people have different beiliefs. I am not religous at all, but if someone who is religous is going to pray for me, I am grateful that they care enough about me to include me in their spiritual activities.

The religious undertone of the message. Some people want nothing to do with religion

Maybe they're offended that you think they need to be prayed for.

You can pray for me, I'm not offended.

Because it makes them feel like life is not in their control, or that we are insisting that there is something "wrong" with them that they need God and cannot fix it all by themselves. It offends their pride.

Very. You never know how much change they will take from your car while they wash it. (Note the sarcasm)

It bothers me because I see it as pity and I don't want people feeling sorry for me.

My soul/self is personal and more important to me. Is your car equivalent to your soul/self?
