Well before I started medical school I thought that the appendix was not important, but after going thru histology, and other classes. I now know that the appendix is very impotant. It is apart of the lymphatic system, meaning it deals with immunity, it deals with the bacteria that are harmful, bacteria that passes thru your large intestine(colon). It is not some left over crap from evolution, that is nothing but a full faced lie. If the appendix where to rupture it would create a lot of problems, it is sort of like the spleen, but he only difference is that one has to do mainly with red blood cells. Anyways just remember that the appendix is important, it is there for a reason. So when the appendix gets infected causing inflammation (appendicitis) the chance of survival after rupturing is very poor, so the doctors remove it.

Your appendix ... it’s there for a reason
by Ken Ham and Carl Wieland

If you put your trust in evolutionary based publications like the 1997 Encyclopædia Britannica, you would think of your appendix this way:

The appendix does not serve any useful purpose as a digestive organ in humans, and it is believed to be gradually disappearing in the human species over evolutionary time. 1

However, even in 1976 medical textbooks were beginning to admit the appendix had functions:

The appendix is not generally credited with significant function; however, current evidence tends to involve it in the immunologic mechanism.2

And in a 1995 medical textbook, the authors are emphatic about the function of the appendix:

The mucosa and submucosa of the appendix are dominated by lymphoid nodules, and its primary function is as an organ of the lymphatic system

No one is quite sure what the appendix is for, but people don't need it anymore.

Sometimes the appendix can get infected, which is known as appendicitis. If the appendix isn't removed and it bursts, you have little chance of surviving. My mother almost died from that when she was 17.

humand don't need the appendix anymore. we kinda "evolved" out of using it. now its just there, doing nothing, lol. doctors have to take it out sometimes because sometimes it gets infected, which is VERY painful, and needs to be removed as soon as possible with surgery. --if you have appenicitis (sp?), if you don't get it removed, you could die.

I really don't know what it's for, but I can only assume if it has to be taken OFF it would be outside your body which of course would be very uncomfortable. As to why they take them out, I believe they do this when I becomes inflammed for whatever reason.

It has no reason. It's a leftover from our caveman days. Doctors take it out because it often breaks down and if it erupts in your body, you could die from the toxins.
