No Judas can be looked at in two ways. Either as the most beloved of the disciples because he was the one chosen by Jesus to help fulfill the prophecy. Or as a patriot for the Jewish religion because the prophecy read or was interpreted to mean that he the Messiah would free the people from oppressors and he was trying to force His hand. Either way, Judas has been badly portrayed by the Bible, but what is a good story without a villain? I also believe Mary Magdalen was badly used by the Bible, as Jesus loved her( as a person not wife) and God does not make junk!!!!

There is so much controversy over Judas. Many people over time have made the mistake of believing that suicide was the unforgivable sin. This is not proven. The proven unforgivable sin is the denouncing of the Holy Spirit. So I believe that Judas is in Heaven as we speak.
On another point. The whole episode of Jesus being betrayed was prophetic. I believe that Judas simply obeyed or did what he was created to do. Jesus HAD to die. It was predestined and arranged. We needed desperately to be saved and it was for this purpose that He lived His life and went through the crucifixion.

It is clear in scriptures that Judas was a greedy individual and all he thought about was money and ways to make it. Judas stoled money from the money that the disciples had. He was offered money by the religious leaders (silver) to betray Jesus and he did. Also, in the scriptures it is clear that he was possessed by the evil one (satan).
What Judas did was wrong and the proof was even he was convicted of his sin, tried to return the silver which they would not take back and killed himself but he never believed in Jesus and accepted him. He followed him thinking He would bring him fame and fortune. Jesus even commented on where he would end up after death.

No, Judas wasn't wrong. It seems that he did what God wanted. In fact, Jesus knew that Judas was going to betray him because it was supposed to happen. If Jesus had not been betrayed, he would not have been arrested and crucified. If those things hadn't happened, there would be no savior who 'died for our sins' and Christianity would, probably, have never come into existence.

Yes, it was wrong of Judas to betray Jesus. He did it for a mere 30 pieces of silver.

You could say that Judas was wrong since Dante did place him in the worst level of hell. But without Judas, Jesus wouldn't have been able to save the world. So was Judas actually right? My opinion - he got a pretty crappy deal.
Christianity is full of these types of paradoxes.
-Judas had to sin and go to hell so that Jesus could save the world.
Kinda like...
-Adam and Eve had to fall from grace so that God's son could...save the world...
It seems like a lot of people have had to end up in hell so that Jesus could become the savior of the world. Maybe God's son has a superiority complex.

My personal opinion and I do not base this on any Biblical teaching is that Judas was fulfilling his role in Jesus' life. Jesus knew when He called Judas that Judas would betray Him. Jesus had to die on the cross to save us from our sins. He had to face death and the grave for our salvation. However, I do believe that when Judas hung himself, that was when the true betrayal occurred. Jesus is in the forgiving business. I believe that if Judas had asked forgiveness instead of killing himself, he would have been a stronger apostle because when Jesus rose from the grave and appeared to the disciples, He would have publicly forgiven Judas for his betrayal. Jesus knew it had to be done, He knew He came to earth to die for our transgressions. There had to be someone to help facilitate that prophecy, but because of free will, Judas chose to kill himself rather than live with his decisions, that was a betrayal of Jesus' forgiving power.
Of course this is only my opinion.

One reason might be, at that time the Jews were under Roman rule and were looking for someone to lead them to freedom from under this. Judas was aware of the power Jesus had by what he had seen him do. As such Judas may have been trying to force a confrontation between Jesus and the Romans to set them (Jews) free.
My 2 cents.....

Judas didn't have to betray Jesus. But he did. It was his choice. If it hadn't been him it would have been somebody. But he chose to betray his friend for money.

I think the real reason that Judas betrayed Jesus was to force him (Jesus) to bring in His kingdom to earth. It didn't work.
