Well, the first thing you need to know is that you got one *hell* of a sweet deal on rent, so don't piss her off!!!

Everything's expensive, but you can experience so much.

When you're on the bus or subway, keep reading your newspaper or magazine no matter what until you reach your stop. You don't want to get drawn into anything.

New Yorkers can be brusque, but are mostly friendly.

Most of us came from somewhere else. We get it. We also think of "Where did you come from?" as a great conversation starter.

That is seriously SO cheap! Anyway... figure out how to use the subways and figure out which direction is which so you can also walk everywhere.

I'd say stay away from doing all of your shopping at supermarkets. A lot of the time the little grocers or drug stores are cheaper anyway... it depends of course, but for produce those fruit stands are always good.

Always do local over some chain! ALWAYS! Get to know your neighborhood vendors. Bagels are cheap, coffee is cheap (if you don't buy it at Starbucks), hot dogs are cheap (go to Grays Papaya)...

Before you order anything anywhere, make sure you know EXACTLY what you want, or people on line will get annoyed that you are taking up too much time. Walk fast, don't idly look up at the buildings.

You can look forwards to having a million things going on that you want to attend, but no time to attend every one of them! Take advantage of as many as possible, and you can also meet people this way too.

Get a job!

Good luck!

human beings in NYC are impolite as hell and disrespectful too. there is not something like a brand manhattan minute so while you're sluggish you will might desire to velocity it up lots. final yet not least the NYC subway all i can assert is the rats down there are in simple terms freaking nasty. interior the summertime time while you're underground interior the subway waiting for a convention it may fell like an oven its so warm. i does not propose you stress any the place in NYC because of the fact there is not any park and in case you do stress you're greater advantageous than in all probability going to might desire to pay for parking. that could run you any the place from 13 for a a million/2 an hour and up thats all i can assert. NYC will the two make you or wreck you. stable success with that.

2 things: 1) get one of those foldable maps of manhattan that has also has the subway lines on it. keep it with you at all times, you'll use it everyday. 2) get a subscription to TimeOut NY magazine. It has all the happenings of the city and is the best guide for getting out and seeing everything NYC.
