My daughter is 6 ans weighs 40 lbs, but she is gaining in height. her doc said she has a higher metabolism, and that this is nothing to worry about as long as she as eating. When she gets older it will catch up with her and she will start gaining weight.

Lucky kid. Maybe it's the diet she has. She might eat all day, but what is it that she's eating. Visit your pediatrition and ask what types of food you should give her because you don't want to give your daughter unhealthy food, just so she can gain weight. Although once in a while it's ok to give it to your kids, so they won't become obssessed with being thin or looking a certain way because obssession is a dangerous thing. Good luck.

p.s. it may very well be genetic. My sisters eat fast food all of the time and never gain weight the biggest size they have ever been is a size 2, unfortunately, I'm not so lucky.

How tall is she?? I have an 8 year old that is very petite and just weighs maybe 54 lbs. The person with the nephew that is 2 that weighs alomst 40 lbs has a nephew that is heavy for his age. The average weight for a 2 year old boy is 28 lbs (50th percentile)

Girls also tend to be less and if she is petite and the doctor is not too concerned..she is fine!

If her father is small chances are she will be as well. My oldest was always small till she hit puberty and now she is normal size for her age. My 8 year old weighs 41 pounds and my 6 year old weighs 52. The biggest thing is if she is healthy. As long as she is healthy and happy and eats regualr meals then don't worry she will either catch up all at once or she will be small.

Take her to the doctor immediately. She could be sick, or if not she is in danger. My 2 year old nephew is 35 lbs and at a healthy weight! Your daughter is 4 years older, she should weight alot more! She should weigh at least 50 lbs.

I honestly don't think if she's healthy and eats well that there's a problem. I have an almost 7 year old who weighs 44 pounds. His father was like that until I married him and then he began to fill out. Don't worry about it. Kids eat what their body needs.

When your kid is eating healthy food in proper portions there is no reason to want her to gain weight. She will probably bulk up on her own just before puberty. My daughter weighed 38 lbs when she was six and is perfectly healthy. Don't try to change nature and genetics you could set your daughter up for future weight issues.

Start pushing the starches. Just make sure, when she gets to the weight you want, you get her to cut back on them, or you'll soon be dealing with the opposite problem.

Calculate her Body Mass Index(BMI) instead of worrying and check with a paediatrician.
