Tricky Good for you, You got you GED more than a lot of people dare to do after leaving school to raise a family. I'm making the assumption that's why you left school, but you met the requirements for your diploma (people don't understand a GED is a diploma).
You getting your EMT-b is also great you are bettering yourself and show the desire to help those in need. Continue on bettering yourself.
The NAVY I don't feel will observe you as being advance qualified solely on your training. However Take the ASVAB and get your scores high. in combination you would go to boot camp as an E-2 and after boot camp and upon entering corman school, you do your requirements for E-3 (book work, Easy stuff) then you can be advanced to Seaman while attending school. Your EMT training will help you in school.
However Have you thought of trying Naval Reserves, Its like really good overtime most of the time and you get training. Yes you may still get deployed overseas or maybe somewhere stateside. (VA hospital's)
Best of luck you you and your family, GO NAVY!!!!!

If you are going to take EMT-B then you will want to figure out a way to get into combat medic field, this is where you will receive better pay, however; the EMT-B will not help that much as there is alot of difference in EMT and combat medic.
