The human body.
Walking, jogging, push ups, sit ups, lunges, yoga, martial arts forms, etc... can give you a darned good workout without having to spend a dime on equipment (excepting maybe a good pair of shoes).

The human body. Yes, you heard it here first. Exercise against your own body weight. Push-ups, Sit-ups, walk, run, swim, all done by the Human Body - no purchase necessary.
There are literally hundreds of stretches, isometrics, and exercises that you can do without any machinery. If you don't have the time for that, then you won't have time for a machine either.
If you must have a machine, get a bicycle. Do hills, distance, constant speed, and time. Spend 30 minutes.

I love my elliptical, you burn so many calories. In 20 minutes oon the elliptical you burn the same amount of calories as 1 1/2 hrs. on the bike! And you get upper and lower body work out.

Heh- the one that you use on a regular basis. I get burned out on any particular one and have to change up. Depends also on what you are trying to achieve, muscle building or cardio workout.
