I'm making a loved one a special dinner and neither one of us are too fond of asparagus, what else would compliment the steak?

If you are making this dinner for a loved one as stated, I assume it is a romantic loved one. I wouldn't make a garlic dish.

Salad is always a good standby, as it helps freshen the mouth. Especially if you put parsley in it. Corn on the Cob is messy and the corn sticks in your teeth. A baked potatoe is good perhaps leave off the chives.

Perhaps strawberries and cream as a dessert.

I would suggest 2 simple things...Grilled asparagus with garlic and butter...and a potatoe dish, I like twice baked potatoes or some garlic mashed potatoes, they would suit things well. They are both flavorful and easy to prepare. The asparagus, just brush on a garlic butter mix and you can usually buy twice baked potatoes at your local supermarket, you just need to heat them up.

Salad with Field Greens, sliced Beefsteak tomatoes, fresh Mozzarella cheese with Balsamic Vinegar and Olive Oil drizzled over it.

Then, with the steak, serve sauteed mushroom in olive oil, garlic, and red wine. Also, garlic smashed potatoes and baby carrots with a mustard & brown sugar butter glaze.

Salad,

Mashed potatoes served in a beautiful container,, and add the topping like you would on a bake potato.

I think that pasta is great also....you could even make the ones from Rice a Roni out of the box,, they are pretty served and so easy and good. They have several flavors. ( 3 cheese, Parmesean/herb ,, etc)

Good luck on your meal, it sounds wonderful!

Garlic roasted new potatoes with rosemary. It's super easy:

- take a bunch of new potatoes, wash, cut into a wedge shapes, and salt and pepper to tastes.
- Douse extra virgin olive oil (comes from extra ugly olives, btw) all over them
- Chop a bunch of garlic and FRESH rosemary and toss with potatoes mixing well.
- Put into baking pan that will hold it all, preferably something with thick walls, like corning ware.
- Cover, and cook in preheated oven on 425 for about 30-45 min.

YOU WILL LOVE THESE....JUST MAKE CREAM CHEESE SMASHERS...LIGHTLY MASH SOME RED POTATOES AND JUST MASH IN SOME CREAM CHEESE...JUST EYEBALL IT AND TASTE IT UNTIL IT IS TO YOUR LIKING, NO NEED TO MEASURE ANYTHING....I USE CHIVE CREAM CHEESE OR REGULAR AND THEN ADD MY OWN CHIVES..IF YOU HAVE A LITTLE SOUR CREAM, MASH THAT IN TOO. THIS WAS ONE OF MY FIRST "DATE" MEALS I MADE FOR MY SWEETIE AND HE STILL ASKS FOR THE POTATOES ALL THE TIME.

FOR THE STEAK, BUY ONE OF THOSE SEASON PACKETS OF BERNAISE SAUCE, MAKE IT, AND DRIZZLE A LITTLE ON THE STEAK...YOU WOULD NOT BELIEVE THE COMPLIMENTS I GOT ON ADDING THIS LITTLE TOUCH.

BON APPETIT! ;)
