I never turned toward it in order to have the ability to turn away.

I haven't turned away from my faith but I haven't been attending my church for the past few years because of problems with my church's supposed "leaders" not getting along and all the politics involved. It's hard for me to get very excited about going and worshiping with them when they don't act very Christian to each other outside of church. I try to go back every once in a while but there is always some big drama between somebody and it just seems like it's not right for a church to be that way. After talking to other people, it seems like all churches have these problems, and it's very disheartening for me. I feel like the way I live my life every day is much more important than organized religion. I am a Christian every day and try to live my life as such, not just on Sunday like a lot of people seem to do.
The reason it gets confusing is because there are so many different interpretations. What I did was a lot of studying and reading on my own to decide what I believe.

No, it has not turned me away. I try to stay away from those that seem to be just trying to pick a fight of some kind and are not really (apparently) interested in learning anything. While praying and fasting are good but without a relationship with Jesus they are just exercise with no end. (And I do not drink wine with Communion, we use grape juice).
So while Y!Answers is an interesting place to get opinions the best place to go is the source. For me it is the Bible and if there is any confusion on my part I go there to get my answers.

The problem is in the worship of religion not in worship of God. Religion is just a reenactment of the Pharisees and Sadducee's. Ritualism and liberalism. All these come between the relationship one has with Christ. Wash all of that away and there is nothing to argue over. You are wonderfully and perfectly made. He knows you. He loves you and no matter what anyone says or argues over no one can argue over the fact that the Lord is interested in one thing...the condition of the heart. You know what is right and wrong deep inside. You know what drove the nails into his hand and scarred His body on the cross. Remember that he did it all for you and if you were the only one on this earth...he still would have done it just for you. That's enough to repent with. We are all human and sin. The difference is in the will and again...the condition of our heart with God.
Be blessed and relax...He's got you covered!

I was raised roman catholic. Every sunday my mother would wake me at the butt crack of dawn and drag me to church where i was told no matter what i do, i was destined to go to hell, but the beauty of confession allowed me to start fresh every week. I think i was 14 when i said to myself that this is crazy. I started to read about religion on my own. I decided to leave all of it behind when i was 15 and have been happy ever since. My brother is a born again type and i can barely speak to him any longer. I really don't have a problem with people believing in religion, but people take it way too far. Live your life for you, not for a "god". If there is a god, he or she needs to show himself to the world because the fanatic types are trying to destroy society with their holy wars. Turn on your televisions, it is getting worse everyday, and we can watch the craziness unfold everyday. I mean even the preacher from Footloose loosened up and let the kids have a dance. Its time for the rest of the fanatics to do the same.

I enjoy observing people so I do not mind the arguing. I don't participate in it, I only read the reactions and logic of the people. When someone identifies themselves with a religion (or not) they are a representative of that religion. I read and learn. Sometimes I learn what I don't want to become.
But it doesn't make me want to turn away from my religion. My religion gives me the structure to worship my deities. And giving honor to my deities is much more important than getting upset over some e-mails. I don't agree with the posts of every person who claims to practice the same religion that I do. I don't need to agree with anyone. But I do need to behave in a manner that I feel would please my deities and peacefully share information when I can. That isn't difficult as long as my priorities are in the right order.

That's where people take and decipher the bible to fit their own needs. I have pretty much stopped going to church because of all the drama that goes on inside. My girls still go, but I would rather be at home and teach my family without all the drama. It's becoming a "keep up with the Jones" attitude. My sister-in-law has gone to the same church all her life. Well now you have to fill out an application (including EVERYTHING) before they will consider your membership. This is an Assembly of God in Indianapolis. She still goes there but refused to give out her financial information.

Yeah, my dad turned me away from religion for trying to force his beliefs on me after the first 12 years or so of never going to church. I'm not religious, but I am very spiritual. I believe in a God or the possibility of multiple thereof, or the the possibility that there is no God. I personally would like to think there is, and I personally would like to think that as long as you are doing what is right because it is right and for no ulterior motive, I don't see how a dunk in water is going to assure your way into heaven any more than living your life to the best that you can is going to assure your way into heaven, or whatever afterlife there may be.
Respect the life and happiness of those around you, respect the earth, and do unto others as you'd have them do unto you. More blood has been shed over religion than for any other reason. How do you think God really feels about that? He probably looks at those who are killing in His/Her/It's name as profane beyond words.

Yeah! It brought me to make my own religion.
The juefawnic religion the belief in one god no Jesus who every one seems to worship.
I acknowledge god, the creator of the human race.
We create for the creator, why else would we be created.
If I make any object it must serve its purpose,
yet Christians don't bother to look at that purpose.
They just think life is all dandy and fun and god loves them.
Well they are wrong, god made us the way we are he gave us free will.
We are his creation yet he does not love us, the fact is he does not know us, or see us.
Well i ain't going to go on about it, one day i do hope that juefawn is a world religion.
To acknowledge the real creator, not Jesus and not the moon god Allah!

yes. I used to be a very loyal church goer. Then I realized that people are the same no matter where you are. Someone always wants to be on top, or wants to be in control. I don't think God intended for it to be that way. HE is in control of everything and everyone. I have yet to find in the Bible where it says I need "religion" (rules) or "church" to get into Heaven. All I have found in the Bible is that I need Jesus to be forgiven and to see the Kingdom of Heaven. Well, I have that, all the rest is just "noise."

If you would abandon your faith in God because of persecution or "argument," then you need to rededicate your life to Christ. Christians will be battling until Christ takes us home. That is why God tells us that we must fight a battle of Spiritual warfare.
Would you deny Christ when Christianity is made illegal by the Anti-Christ. It's going to happen. Will you stand for your Savior or will you turn away from him, betray him like Peter and the other disciples did when Christ was murdered?
Eph 6:10-13 KJV) "Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. {11} Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. {12} For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. {13} Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand."
I will pray that you can go to the Lord in prayer, kneel at the foot of the cross and ask Christ to be Lord of your life.
