It's a promise to marry. Too young or too broke to buy an engagement ring...it's the next best thing.

If a promise ring could talk it'd say this: "I promise that you are the one that I want to spend the rest of my life with, and I will not be with any other women. The next ring I give you will be your engagement ring". It's a pretty serious meaning, but most people don't go through with it. Anyways...Hope I helped!!!!

A promise ring is just a token of appreciation. It means that you want to get serious with another person but at the given time you can not formally become engaged for reasons that can go from not having money, time, being to young etc...But still you are "promising" that you will in the near future.

Promise ring: "I might as well marry you but your mama says we're too young. Anyway, just because you were asking for "the next step" and i'm too scared to take it, here have a ring, might not be an engagement ring but it's better than nothing.."

It's like an engagement ring for teenagers. It basically means that they can't get engaged right now because of their age, etc. so they're promising to get married eventually. It's like an expensive version of wearing your boyfriend's class ring in high school.

its usually a ring with a very small diamond somewhere on it....jewelery stores are all going crazy over them now. Its usually a highschool thing. People don't give eachother class rings anymore...but it means the same thing...I think they are thinking that it means they are promised to eachother and might one day marry...but you know how highschool is :) I got one from my sweetie my freshman year of college...and we ended up getting engaged!! But when it happens to 16 year olds...that not usually the case.

Today, more than ever before, a promise ring means just what it says; I "promise"...

Promises are only worth the quality of the person standing behind them.

it could mean a number of things. but most of the time its a ring promising that the two will be and stay together no matter what, like a promise until the big day of marriage, or whatever. it could be a promise on something big from one of them. but like i said, those are pretty much signifying they want to be together, its like a pre-engagement!
