I had a room mate move in who is allergic to cats and dogs bad not to mention he has asthma really bad he is on two or three meds and uses an anebulizer. He can not go to peoples homes with animals. We have found that by him using a hepafilter (not sure of the spelling) and by keeping the floors and furniture vacuumed and hair free he has no problems. He has lived with my animals for over 5 years. 3 cats and 3 dogs. It can be done. I would deep clean your entire house and spend some money on a good air filter and give your cats a bath and comb them (they will hate this but they will deal). Let the filter run for a couple of days and keep windows open in your house for a few days as well. I am sure it will work out fine.

have him talk to his doctor about allergy shots or pills. my boyfriend is allergic to cats, not deathly allergic but he is on zyrtec and that helps a lot, also get an air purifier and probably for a month or 2 vaccuum every day and use arm and hammer poweder stuff you put on the carpet with pet hair release. use that every day for a week and then get arm and hammer allergen reducer and use that for a week and alternate between the 2, and make sure to also do your furntature and get frabreeze allergen reducer. have one room you don't let your cats in at all make sure that is really clean so you can hang out in there. you can give it a try but down the line when you move in with eachother it could be really hard on him, you do your part and have him see his doc and see how things go.
good luck!

only if you get rid of your cats and then fumigate your house. If he's worth more than your cats that is. If not, then you need a man who isn't allergic and who likes cats.
My 2nd wife was deathly allergic to dogs. I made the sacrifice, and got rid of the dogs, sold the house and had a new house built. It was worth it. I would never value my pets over a human.

I think you need to send him back to his maker to have him reprogrammed! He's defective! There are 2 bumper stickers that I love:
1. Love Me...Love My Cat(s)
2. My husband and kids were allergic to my cat...I miss them sometimes!
I'm kidding of course. But in all seriousness, allergy medication will not work for somebody with a severe cat allergy. He is going to need immunotherapy treatment - i.e. allergy shots. This is the only way he will be able to build up his own immunity to your cats. Pet allergies can be quite dangerous and lead to asthma, or anaphylaxis which is very serious.
If it makes you feel any better, my cousin's husband was deathly allergic to her cat. He did the immunotherapy for a few years and now he doesn't need it anymore. He's completely allergy free now because the shots helped him build up his own immunity to the cat allergens.
If your new man asks you to get rid of your cats...ditch him FAST. Like the bumper sticker says..."Love me...Love my cat!"

this is a difficult situation because you want to keep both. i'm afraid the best solution would be for the boyfriend to put up with it ... maybe get some allergy shots & allergy medication. hope he gets used to it after a while. there are also ways you can minimize the amt. of allergen in the house, like allergen-destroying pet wipes you can buy that destroy the allergens in the cat dander. there are also sprays that destroy cat dander allergens. air purifiers may help as well. maybe you could keep the cat out of certain rooms in your house, like where your boyfriend sleeps. that would keep the allergen away from your boyfriend for a big chunk of the day at least.

My now-fiance is allergic to cats, and about 5 years ago I moved in with him. I said, "Either it's me and the cat or you'll be alone!" and he listened. What worked for us is two Hepa filters (one in the bedroom and one in the living room) and I used Allerpet on the kitty for the first year. Believe it or not, he built up an immunity to her (not other cats, just her). But, if he's not willing to try, he's not worth your time!

I can tell you from experience it won't work. I had a b/f who was allergic and I had 2 cats. He didn't know he was allergic until we got married and before we knew it he ended up in the hospital. he called me from there and his doctor told him I would have to get rid of them and clean everything from ceiling to floors, walls and everything in the house. It was not fun. Good luck.

Don't think of getting rid of the cats, their dander is already all over the place so he will still be allergic. Can he see an allergist and get pills or something?

keep the cats inside.
I have 2 cats as well. Mine stay inside all the time tho. so people who were terribly allergic weren't the tiniest bit allergic at all.

Tell him to try Liquid Life. They are liquid vitamins. I think they have a website you can order from. My stepdad is allergic to cats and he takes it and my mom has 2 cats and he's fine. So I would have to say that it works.
