If he does there are going to be lots of folks who will be mightily depressed. Right on this forum I've read countless Q&As where the "righteous" writers are counting on being able to look down at the sufferers in hell - and not with concern or pity, but with a gleeful "I told you so!"
Yeah, it's a big-time perk for some of these "Christians."

In Revelation where it says that the Devil and sinners will be tormented both day and night is greatly misunderstood. It is indeed forever, but we fail to study and see how that is applied.
The key to unlocking Revelation is found in Gen. 8:22 where it says that as long as this earth last, seedtime & harvest, cold & heat, summer & winter and DAY & NIGHT shall not cease. So as long as this earth lasts, day & night will not cease. If you look at Revelation 21:1 it says "there was a new heaven and a NEW EARTH". And Revelation 22:5 says "And there shall be NO NIGHT there".
So, as long as this earth stands, DAY & NIGHT, shall not cease, but Revelation says there's a New earth where there is no night. If you go back to Revelation 20:10 where it says the devil will be tormented DAY & NIGHT forever. In the original greek, there are 3 case endings for time and each defines time in a different way. They are:
1) The Locative Case Ending which define a point or instant in time like May 10, 2006 or 8:05 am. That is not the case ending used in Revelation.
2) The Accusative Case Ending which defines the length or duration of time such as 10 minutes, 8 weeks, 1000 years. THAT IS NOT THE CASE ENDING USED IN REVELATION EITHER.
3) The Genetive Case Ending which defines the type, kind or quality of time such as spring time, dusk, dawn, winter. THIS IS THE CASE ENDING USED IN REVELATION.
So Revelation 20:10 can literally be read "And the devil, who deceived them, was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone where the beast and the false prophet are. And they will be tormented DURING DAY AND NIGHT TYPE OF TIME FOREVER AND EVER."
Remember, Gen. 8:22 says that Day & Night will continue to exist as long as this planet remains, but Revelation 21:1 says there is a NEW EARTH and Rev. 22:5 says there is NO MORE NIGHT THERE.
So satan and sinners will only burn during DAY & NIGHT (Genetive) type of type. When the earth is made New, day & night type of time comes to and end, and satan and sinners will only be tormented during day & night type of time.
So forever is true, but only during day & night type of time. And time preception can be very relative. For example, have you been talking to someone you really like on the phone and it seems you've only been on the phone with them for 15 minutes, but you look at your watch and 2 hours have passed? Or, your shift at work ends at 5:00 pm and the time is 4:55 pm and it seems like it's taking forever for that last 5 minutes to get here?
When sinners and the devil burn, that will be forever for them. Another example, say you commit a very heinious crime and I sentence you to jail for the rest of your life (essentially forever). So you get transported to the penitentary, check put in your cell and 5 minutes later you have a heart attack and die. Although you were only in prison for 5 minutes, that was forever for you, that was your entire life sentence in prison.

Well gee, then it wouldn't be eternal now would it.
I don't know, it depends on how evil and omniscient god is. If he's truly omniscient, he wouldn't call it "eternal" torture, because he'd know he'd eventually get bored with it and cut it out.

Enternal life means no death. You have to understand the time concept which may not exists in heaven and hell. As I understand that people have to go to hell for their wrong doing and when they realize their mistakes and sins their punishment will finish.

God can just listen to the Robot Devil and his jazz band. (God can't play because he has what his music teacher, Mrs. Mellenger, calls "stupid fingers.")
