I have 5 dogs and 2 cats (extremely well taken care of)and I want another kitten, my husband thinks this is not a good idea but I think its a great idea to go get another cat from a shelter and save it from god only know what destiny....

I think you're a kind hearted person who wants to help animals.

You don't have that many animals. I think what you are doing is great. I have quite a few cats, when I took them to the vet to get fixed they were shocked how healthy they were. Most people who have more than one or two animals don't take real good care of them.

Animal hoarders or collectors want to help all animals but end up hurting them because they don't have the money to take care of all of them. I've seen on the news and other shows, people with 60 to 100 animals and more. Those are collectors. For some reason they are all kept in the house and some have never even seen sunlight, this I don't understand.

Anyway, what you are doing is great. I'm glad that you love animals. I don't think that you are even close to being a collector of animals, just someone who cares.

if it gets to the point where the animals are not taken care of, poor health or Stinky house then there is a problem. Usually a collector has dozens of animals not a few. They had one case on TV where a woman's animals were eating each other because she could not feed them..that was bad. My house has 3 cats and 2 dogs all healthy and happy.

There actually is a form of animal abuse called "collecting". This is when someone accumulates alot of animals trying to save them, and they aren't taken care of properly. Like not fed properly or in bad quarters, or don't get proper medical care. I have 4 dogs, and I am always checking myself on this, I know how you feel. My dogs are now severly over-spoiled, but they are all the family I have, so that is okay. Just as long as they are all taken care of, I don't see the problem. About your husband though, find out why he objects. Unfortunately we have to think about them too.

No you don't have an issue!!! You are just an animal lover and I totally have the same problem!! Every time someone I know is looking to get rid of an animal they call me! I have fourteen pets and at least half of them came from homes where they weren't being taken care of or wanted anymore. Now they are all spoiled and I love them lots!

seriously yes it is possible that there is an underlying reason but not necessarily a problem...and if you can afford to care for that many pets well then you go girl but know your limits hording them is a worse fate than the shelter ever was...rd

as long as you have the time, space and money to properly take care of all of these animals you should get as many animals as you want especially if they all get along with eachother.
