The KKK resemble terrorists, that's for sure. And I think that they have killed more than "several" blacks over the years. And certainly, in their heyday, they were terrorists. These days, they are more a gang of racists criminals, a kind of "Racketeer Influenced Criminal Organization," as it were.

Terrorists have changed also. Once, they were groups with a political agenda that targeted people and property directly associated with the political structure they were opposed to: officials, government offices, military installations and the like.

Now, they don't seem to care what the dingdong they blow up or who they kill or even if doing that is effective.

These days, the connection between Islam and terrorism is considered to be not specifically Arab, because terrorists who are Muslim are not all Arabs, and would have a fit to be described as Arabs. Pakistanis, Afgans, Indians, Fillipinos, Indonesians: none of these are Arabs but have active terrorist organizations. There is indeed an element within Islam that uses Islam as an excuse for their "activities." That is why they are called, rightly or wrongly, "Islamic extremists." They themselves cite their Islamic-ness as the reason they are active.

So basically, the KKK is a rag-tag remnant of early terrorism, and Islamic extremists are the modern expression of terrorism.

KKK is not a terrorist organization, but not a threat to the US, just a bunch of losers who need to think they are better than other people: they have no cause.

They target a small segment of the population, and have not (yet) launched a full scale attack. The number of people killed and property damage (short term) is lower than Arab extremists, so they are lower on the threat list.

I don't quite understand why there should a sense of contest. Who cares who's the bigger terrorist. It almost sounds like a reality tv show concept.

Anyone who terrorizes others is a terrorist. Be they KKK, Al Quaida, skinheads, street gangs
or rogue soldiers.

To me it's not a matter of who's worse than who. It's how we can create an social
environment that doesn't drive reasonable people to do unreasonable things, and how we can create a system of legal retribution that is both fair and agressive enough to stop the genuinely bad from doing bad things.

If you asked the FBI, the most dangerous domestic terrorists in the US are Environmentalist groups like Earth Liberation Front and Earth First.
