My Italian Greyhound Lenny died in september of last year...He was diagnosed with Lymphsarcoma in May of that year. After several failed attempts at treatment I decided to put him down. The vet told me he only had maybe a week or 2 left anyway but as soon as he stopped eating and started to hide in the cupboard I knew it was time....He was only 2...He was cremated and now sits in my bedroom.....Been nearly a year now...Is it time to get another IG?

only when you're ready. and considering adopting one too, if you didn't adopt Lenny because you'll feel even better when you save a life of one that had been rescued from racing, ect.

good luck=D

For ...'s response above: Italian Greyhounds aren't rescued from racing. They are small, a toy breed, and don't race...other than lure coursing.

Only you can decide if the time is right for another IG. I would consider a rescue or one from a good breeder. There are many in pet stores but they generally have health/temperment issues and cost too much. I wouldn't want you to go through another premature loss from getting a pup from a pet store/on-line/or newspaper ad that will have health issues. Do your best to find a good breeder with a health guarantee. Try www.akc.org unless you already have a good breeder.

It's really up to you to decide. You may want to check your local IG rescue for a cute new buddy. I got my furry monster from an IG rescue and he is great.

To whippetgirl: IG's are used as racing dogs but not in the US. My IG is a rescue from a racetrack in Mexico where is lived in deplorable conditions and was malnourished and abused.

Omigosh, yes, if your heart is telling you to. . I'm so sorry you lost your little Lenny.....I have 2 Iggys and just adore them...I got them from a breeder in Tennessee, but would consider rescuing one from IG Rescue if I got another.

I think it's wonderful you had him cremated.......

Good luck on your search!

If you think you are ready go for it. I am the type of person that would get another dog immediately after a dog's death, but it sounds like you're given yourself time to heal. try rescue, too. good luck and sorry for your loss.
