I quote from BBC .....UN peacekeepers in south Lebanon contacted Israeli troops 10 times before an Israeli bomb killed four of them, an initial UN report says.
The post was hit by a precision-guided missile after six hours of shelling, diplomats familiar with the probe say.
UN-led crisis talks in Rome ended with no agreement to urge an immediate ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah.
In ongoing clashes, up to 13 Israeli soldiers were reported killed in southern Lebanon on Wednesday.
Israel has not confirmed any deaths from among its soldiers, but says there have been 20 casualties in the clashes around the town of Bint Jbail, a strategically located Hezbollah stronghold.
Later, the centre of Tyre was hit by a massive explosion, possibly caused by an Israeli air strike.
More than 400 Lebanese and 42 Israelis have died in two weeks of conflict, which began after Hezbollah captured two Israeli soldiers in a cross-border raid on 12 July.

I mean is there nothin that we can do as Human Beings? Whats the point in having a World body called the UN when there is so much bloodshed everywhere. Earlier it was Afghanistan, then Iraq, now Lebanon!! Why not act against the rogue countries at once with a stern iron hand (of course with consensus from its Members after callin an Emergency Meeting or somethin and act once and for all?) Is the UN not a peace-keeping force anymore?? This question has been worrying me for a long time now and i sure that most of us must have been starting if not already, wondering on these lines. I only wanted to get more enlightenment on the whole issue on such burning topics that comprise most of the daily news and the particular role being played by the UN.

Thanks i've had a mixed response to the burning question that we all face today. It is all very unfortunate on what we see today. I am not an Israeli, American or from Lebanon. I am from India and it surely pains mi heart that a lot of bloodshed is happening all around us and we have been reduced to mere spectators in the whole process. I cannot predict what will happen to the on-going crisis. Can you ??

Unfortunately or not depending on you point of view, I believe it's because they are an ally of the US. And they probably have the best equipped armed forces in the world next after the US. I don't think Israel would care what they say in any event. Nor do I believe the UN would care to take on the Israeli army.
Of course this is all just opinion. I like to think it is informed opinion. But then again what do I or any average man on the street really know about whats going on with the powers that be. Most of whom seemed to have long ago abandoned the goal of serving the good of their people.

Depends on if you believe that the UN follows the lead of the United States. We are, historically, one of the few countries that has been friendly with Israel. They aren't exactly well-loved elsewhere, even in Europe. But the US has had ties to them for a long time.

Also, the Hezbollah is considered a terrorist organization by the US, Great Britain, and a few other countries. So they can't exactly intervene on their behalf.

Now, as to why Lebanon itself isn't throwing a fit at Israeli occupation forces...that's another matter entirely.

Maybe the UN feels that Israel is JUSTIFIED in defending itself! What has happened to the world when we think that the terrorists should be able to do whatever they want just to avoid war? The US should have annihilated the entire area after 9-11, and the Israelis have a right to stop the bull s***! What is the MATTER with you people!?!? You are the ones that are afraid - get some guts and stand up for the rest of us against terrorism - do we really want to just hand the planet over to them?

Th UN is taking no action against Israel because Israel is doing exactly what the UN knows has to be done, but the UN can't get their act together and do it. Some large corporations are just the same (can't get any decisions out of never-ending committee meetings). Too much "democracy" is inherently self-defeating. Would America ever have voted to drop the atom bomb?

The UN is worthless but do not pin this all on Israel. Lebanon is and has been a terrorist country. The fighting has been going on in the middle east for 40 years and each new phase is just an extension of the last. i say the rest of the world should keep out and let them all blow each other up.

What good has the UN ever done. They have raped and murdered themselves in a multitude of occupations. It had to be an accident. What good could Israel possibly have thought by targeting UN Peacekeepers, an oxymoron. The UN "Keeps" peace with??? The best way to achieve peace in destroy the enemy instead of instituting or pretending to institute diplomacy to achieve peace. We achieved peace with Germany and Japan by defeating them.

The BBC reports that most of those reported Lebanese deaths are actually Hezbollah extremist.

8 Israeli soldiers were also killed during the kidnapping of the 2 soldiers by Hezbollah. The U.N. is a toothless tiger,(kitten?). They have done nothing to save hundreds of thousands in Rwanda,or the Sudan, and I don't expect them to be of any use in this conflict either.

The answer is more simple than you might imagine. The Jewish people as a whole have been persecuted for over two thousand years. The entire world feels guilty about how we all left them out in the cold while they were being systematically eliminated.I am not Jewish by any means but I do believe that they have more than earned the right to protect themselves as a people.

Zionists have an agenda. it is to regulate each and every significant body of authorities and it is substances. it isn't an in one day experience, years contained in the making besides the undeniable fact that the hardship-free topic is to create an enemy. they might want to silence any competition then artwork flat out to contain and administration the wear. Zionists have created allies. There at the prompt are Christian Zionists and their impression on different Christians is managed by them. i trust the Bush's are Christian Zionists, yet it is purely my opinion. yet when freedom of expression is authorized then all their artwork will be down the tubes. after all, it replaced into them education this freedom that were given them the position they're. I wish you peace!

action against isreal isn't needed by the U.N. since Isreal's in the right. If you were on the playground and all the kids started throwing dodgeballs and garbage at you would you yell? would you try to get them to stop or let them kick your ***? Isreal is that kid surrounded by a bunch of backward thinking people who wont stop till the kid is dead. Isreal has the right to defend itself. I hope Isreal kills millions of those people. I like to see a nuke dropped on Iran Libya Lebenon syria or Iraq...seriously!!!!!! for the record I'm not a jew or an arab/muslim and I'm not into any form of religion just a logical thinker.
