He's eating the grass, soil, hedges and flowers. I've de -wromed him but no worms appear. This is causing me distress because my mum's lovely green lawn is now full of pot holes.

It doesn't neccessarily mean that he's got an upset stomach or that he's even sick at all. It's a common myth that if a dog is eating grass, he must be sick. It may be true for some dogs, but many just like eating grass. Nothing is wrong with them, they aren't trying to throw up, they don't have an upset stomach, none of that. They just like the taste of it or something like that. Some dogs do only eat if they're sick, some eat it every now and then just cause they want to, and some eat it everyday. As for the worms, just keep him up to date on his heartworm pills, and ask your vet to check for them whenever you take your dog in for a checkup. As long as he doesn't become anemic or severely underweight, they shouldn't be a problem. My dog is one that loves grass. He eats it whenever we're outside. He always has ever since I got him. He's perfectly healthy, and has not had any problems at all.

As long as your puppy's not showing any other signs, such as decreased energy, lying on the floor panting heavily even though he has not been out playing/exercising and it isn't excessively hot, vomiting, diarrhea, etc., it's nothing to be worried about. He's probably just one of the dogs who like grass. Specially grown grass for dogs, cats, bunnies, guinea pigs, hamsters, mice, rats, etc. can also be bought at pet stores, such as Petco, SuperPetz, and PetSmart. It doesn't contain pesticides or any of that kind of stuff that may be found in people's lawns. They come in little black plastic 'cups' like the ones that flowers come in at the garden section of Wal-mart, Home Depot, and places like that. They only last for so long though.

As for your mom's lawn, either buy the little boxes of grass I was talking about and don't let him eat any other grass or talk to her about setting aside a certain patch of her lawn for your puppy. Train him that he can only eat grass from that patch. You can put a barrier, like a fence or something like that to help him distinguish between his area and the rest of the lawn. Take your pup to this area and praise him when he's there. Give extra praise when you see him eating from there. Whenever you see him eating grass outside of his area, give him a soft 'no'. Then lead him to his area, and praise him. Just be consistent about correcting him whenever he's eating from an innappropriate spot, and praising him whenever he's eating from his area of grass.

Try setting aside a certain area of the lawn for him to be able to dig in and play in. Whenever he starts destroying something in an area outside that one, pick him up and move him into that place. Also, a sandbox might help. Dobermans are working dogs, and they're easily bored. Try walking him regularly. In the US, there are toys called Kongs that you can stuff with treats and give to your dog to keep them entertained. He might also have a nutritional deficiency, so try changing his food. Lots of play and interaction with you will help, too, and don't leave him outside unsupervised, because he could eat something that would really make him sick. Good luck! :)

It could be a variety of things. Maybe a nutritional deficiency, or a slightly upset stomach. But the most likely cause is that he just likes the taste of the grass. My dog does that, he never gets sick, just really likes the taste. Another cause could be boredom or not enough exercise. Is he getting enough attention? Dobermans are VERY people-oriented dogs and they absolutely thrive on attention. By the way, I love your choice of breed! DOBERMANS ROCK!!!!!!!!!

Sometimes dogs eat grass when they have a mild stomach upset and usually they'll vomit soon after that, this has led to the belief that dogs eat grass when they're unwell to make themselves vomit.

Eating unusual objects can arise from a dietary deficiency, so it' s a good idea to get them checked by a vet.

Its a very normal thing for dogs 2 do. It gives them nutrients they might not otherwise get from conventional dog food. But u do have 2 b careful though, because there r many houseplants that r poisonous to dogs. Most dogs know this and instinctively stay away, but sometimes it can't help itself. I suggest checking your yard for potentially dangerous plants and putting houseplants where it can't reach them. Oh, and it won't make his digestive system go out of whack either.

Whoa, did I write that? I'm acually kinda smart, I guess. Cool.

Dogs, like humans, are omnivores which means that you can eat both meat and veg. Puppys will eat anything, it's part of working out what they do and don't like.

If he is pooing ok don't worry. If he is having diahoria then he has an upset stomach.

Your puppy is eatting greens like grass because he has an upset stomach... if he is eatting bushes and that kind of stuff he is teething.. give him a little pepto for his upset stomach and see if it helps him out.. as for the teething you can give him a baby asprin and that will help him with the pain of growing teeth..
sounds cute but i can see your mom
A teaspoon of pepto will work because he is likely to spit most of it back out at you.. you know how bad it taste..

Puppies eat grass to make themselves throw-up and cleanse their little tummies out. Adult dogs do the same, so its not something to worry about.

If there was no evidence of worms in his stool, then why did you worm him?
