You say he did it when he was little so I take it this means it was a while ago that it happened?

If the smell is still there then you may have to replace the carpet and you may or may not have to replace whats underneath it.

The smell might come out of the carpet but it can leak down and soak into your floor.

I've used the rug DR's animal stuff and it took the smell out of the carpet for myself , but please keep in mind ... Just because something is expensive doesn't mean it works and your animal can not be harmed by it and make sure if you have other animals make sure whatever method you use won't harm them also....

But I have also done the baking soda trick and it seems to have worked for me but I also took a broom and brushed it in , left it for atleast an hour then vacuumed it up...

send the carpet to the cleaners . They are the right guys to clean the smell and the stain out.

Cost free option is to keep it in the sun for a day . smell and the bacteria will diasspear.

Use an enzymatic cleaner like PetZyme (from PetSmart). Follow the directions. Do *not* use bleach or anything that contains ammonia.

If it's more than just one spot, have it professional steam cleaned (you can rent these machines), and make sure it uses a pet-odor shampoo.

Good luck.
