i'm connecting a 240v rectifier to a disc. sw. that has 208 3 wire service coming in-i believe i just wire in in to the 2 hot legs of the disc.?

Depends on what you are talking about. Something like a household range can run on either 240 or 208 volts, just with different power usage. A motor for 240 could be damaged by 208 (and vice versa). A transformer can be used to convert between 240 and 208V. Usually a place with 208V will have 208V appliances and not 240V ones. What is your situation? You didn't say WHAT is 240V that you want to connect to 208V.

If your aparatus is cleary indicated for 208V then you have to use a transformer to convert the Voltage. But keep in mind a transformer cannot convert Frequency.
